FLORIDA'S CONSERVATIVE LEADERSHIP has created an environment
where businesses can create jobs, where
Floridians can find work and families can
prosper, but we still have more work to
do. We have to put Florida first, so that
we're more than a prize for a life welllived someplace else. If we put Florida
first, we can make Florida the launch pad
for the American Dream.
The next Governor of Florida will
need to be a proven leader who knows
Florida, and no one in this race knows
Florida better than me. I'm a fifth

generation Floridian, and my record
shows I've always put Florida first. As
Governor, I'll work every day to make
Florida the first in the nation.
The Florida Forestry Association
was the first agriculture association to
endorse me in the Governor's race, and
I believe it's because we share the same
values and vision for Florida's land: promoting responsible and sustainable use
of our state's land resources.
Associations like Florida Forestry
Association are relevant today because
of their advocacy for both Florida's

forests and the economy. Forestry is
one of the state's top agriculture commodities. With an overall economic
impact of $25 billion, the forestry industry supports 124,000 jobs for Floridians
statewide. Although the majority of the
state's forests lie north of Ocala, the
industry reaches all the way to MiamiDade County.
My experience as a grower and a
rancher is why I have such a strong
appreciation for the land. Landowners
know how important it is to take care
of what we have because we rely on
land to provide for our businesses. If we
want our businesses to be sustainable
for the long term, we must take care of
the land that provides for us.
As a public servant, I've made a commitment to the land. As Commissioner
of Agriculture, one of my top priorities
has been to protect our land and especially our water resources. I have championed water policies that will improve
the quality, and grow the quantity of our
water resources to support our future
economy, and I have requested record
funding to support the Rural and Family
Lands Protection Program.
Created in 2001, the Rural and Family
Lands Protection Program acquires
perpetual conservation easements on
Florida's ranches and farms to protect
rural and working agricultural lands
