Tom Jackson works with the Florida Retail Federation as a consultant with its Loss Prevention Council and said said it goes beyond just
grocery stores and big-box retailers. "Shrink" cost the global retail
industry more than $128 billion last year, $42 billion in the United
States alone, according to the Global Retail Theft Barometer study
released November 2014.
"Loss prevention is unfortunately a very important function that every
retailer must pay attention to," he said. "In the marketplace, make no
mistake, LP professionals are competitors. But, when it comes to loss
prevention, it's a collaborative effort. They work together to become better partners with law enforcement, solve crimes and defeat criminals."
The council, which meets three to four times a year, works to provide educational and professional development resources for retail
loss prevention and asset protection professionals, and networking opportunities to strengthen statewide partnerships. They also
keep members informed on legislative issues and hot topics that will
