Pest Perspectives - January/February 2014 - (Page 6)
t's hard to believe that 2013 is over. Everyone said it would go by
fast but I had no idea just how fast it would go. What a great year it
was, too. I got to meet so many great people throughout the year and
really just want to give all of you my thanks for allowing me to lead the
association for a year.
FPMA had a great year-here are just a few highlights:
* A monthly outreach to 1500 non-members through emailed articles
featured in eFlash and a bimonthly Pest Perspective magazine goes to
all 4000 company locations.
* Positive member growth and a renewal rate of over 90 percent!
* An online event registration and reporting software for a better online registration
* Created new OSHA training document for mandated training, available for free on the
FPMA website, and also created an OSHA Fall Protection training Guideline.
* Launched Leadership FPMA, a one-year curriculum to develop new leaders by exposing
them to all aspects of the industry and to key FPMA events; it was developed by
Wedgworth Leadership Institute graduates Marcie Dowling and Sean Brantley.
* Through participation in EREF, FPMA met with editorial boards of three major Florida
daily newspapers to discuss water quality issues and fertilizer regulation.
* Held three major events: Expo in Orlando, Summer Conference on Duck Key and
Legislative Tour in Tallahassee, that connected members together for fun, education and
All of our successes take talented and dedicated volunteers and staff. There are a few
people that I need to give special thanks to:
To my wife Leyda and my children - Thanks for putting up with the hectic schedule.
All of our great Allied Members - Your support is what keeps us going.
Tim Brock - Thanks for all your support and for agreeing to chair the Government
affairs committee this year.
Marcie Downing and Sean Brantley - You guys did an outstanding job putting
"Leadership FPMA" together. It's going great and will continue to prosper in the future
under your leadership.
Allen Fugler - We made lots of trips together this year. Loads of fun. Thanks for all
the work you put into this association for all of us.
Lisa Ashley - The events keep growing and getting better. You rock!
Mandy Judd - Thanks for holding the office together.
Billy Craft - Chair of Membership Committee - You put in some serious hours for a
volunteer and made great headway. Thank you.
Linda Prentice - Chair of Education Committee - The enthusiasm you showed for this
committee made it clear you were the right person for the job. Well done!
David Cooksey and Mel Whitson - Summer Conference Co-Chairs - What can I say
but woo hoo! It was awesome.
Mark DeGeare and Jason Zicarelli - Expo 2014 - This is already looking like it's
going to be the best event we ever had. I can't wait.
Steve Lum - Leadership in Brevard County for fertilizer ordinances. You flat out lead
the way for us on the fertilizer issues on the East Coast. Thank you for your time and
commitment to the task.
All our great Region Directors. You guys are the glue that holds us all together.
To the Executive Committee: George Braker, Billy Riley, Keith Ruebeling, Adam
Jones and Anne-Marie Tulp - You guys made my job a pleasure. I know the association
is in great hands for many years to come.
To all the Presidents before me, especially my dad and brother, to George Braker,
D.R. Sapp, Tim Hulett, Jim Williamson, Jennifer Leggett; Thanks for taking time to
listen and give me advice and support. I couldn't have done it without you.
I leave office knowing that this association is the best in the country. I look forward to
serving in other capacities for years to come. Thank you.
