Soars for Students and
Charitable Organizations

I've never known 24 months to fly by so
quickly; that is how I feel as I reflect on my
time as Foundation chair. I have to admit
that I started my term with a fair amount
of trepidation. I knew I had some BIG shoes
to fill, starting with Pete Seidlitz and ending with Todd Freeman, my predecessor.
That being said, the past two years have
been an amazing experience surrounded
by a great group of trustees and volunteers. I am thankful for each person that
helps the Foundation in so many different
ways, whether it is through trustees and
committee members giving of their time
and talent, or our donors who are so generous to support our mission financially.
We could not touch so many lives without
those that are too numerous to name. I am
also excited to announce my successor, Jep
Thornton, who will take over as chairman
of the Foundation at the conclusion of the
America's Conference in San Diego. Jep is
no stranger to ISTAT and has served as an
ISTAT Foundation trustee for the past four
years, as well as a former ISTAT President
and most recently as ISTAT's Immediate
2017 ISTAT Humanitarian Grant recipient - AMREF Flying Doctors (Kenya).

Past President. I am looking forward to
serving as the vice chairman under Jep's
leadership, and I know he'll keep us on a
path of growth and expansion.
So what exactly has the Foundation been
up to this past year?
I always relish the opportunity to brag
about our accomplishments, because I am
so proud of what you enable us to do. We
start off by touching lives in need through
our humanitarian support. In 2016, we
provided $150,000 in financial support
to 14 different non-profit organizations
around the world. This included a grant
of $75,000 to Airlink, a charity that ISTAT
gave birth to in 2010. Our humanitarian
focus is unique in that each recipient
organization uses aviation as a way to
improve lives for others. Whether they
help fund an air ambulance operator in
Kenya or provide air support to health
providers for women in remote parts of
Australia, aviation is at the forefront of
their mission. In terms of grants spending,
we committed a total of $77,000 to 18 different global organizations with a focus
on awareness of aviation and our industry.
In many cases, we are targeting youth to
create an excitement and a passion for
