ISTAT Foundation
I am very pleased and honored to assume
the position of ISTAT Foundation chair
and I look forward to working with ISTAT
members around the world to continue the
good work of the ISTAT Foundation. First
and foremost, I want to thank outgoing
Foundation Chair Warren Willits for all his
contributions. His dedication and commitment to the foundation are evident to all
who know him. As vice chairman, he will
be a great resource and will help ensure
continuity for the foundation.
I would also like to thank our outgoing foundation trustees for their service:
Dean Gerber, Tom Heimsoth, Vito La Forgia,
Ken Perich, David Sutton and John Vitale.
They have been generous with their time
and have made many meaningful contributions to the foundation. Our new board
members bring increased diversity to
the ISTAT Foundation leadership. We are
delighted to welcome Damon D’Agostino,
Mark Dunnachie, Mary Ellen Jones, Mike
Platt, Murrae Ross-Eskell and Rod Sheridan.
We look forward to their contributions
during their two-year terms.
The ISTAT Americas 2013 gathering
was outstanding in many respects, as is
highlighted in this edition of Jetrader. If

you attended, I hope you were able to
hear Warren’s foundation update and meet
some of the impressive ISTAT scholars.
Several former scholarship winners, now
employed in our industry, were also in
attendance. These successful scholars are a
clear testament to the development pipeline
that the foundation has created for these
young leaders.
The foundation continues its focus
on scholarships, grants, internships and
support for humanitarian activities. More
recently, under Warren’s leadership, the
foundation has been exploring a new
education and development initiative called
ISTAT University. We’ll provide more information on this exciting new focus area as
the new plan takes shape over the next
few months.
The success of all of these foundation initiatives relies on funding. We are
grateful for the $335,000 giant check we
received from ISTAT at the gala dinner
event. But that is only a portion of our
funding. We are also grateful for the support of our Foundation Roundtable sponsors: Apollo Aviation Group, Rolls-Royce,

the 6th Annual Poker Tournament, which
raised more than $10,000. All of these
donations are critical inputs to help us
meet our goals.
I’m excited to begin my term as chairman and will put my experience in the
industry to good use for the beneﬁt of
the foundation. By way of introduction, I
have been with GECAS sales and marketing for more than 20 years, about half of
which was spent in Europe and Asia. Our
business has given me the opportunity to
travel to more than 70 countries, and I
greatly value that global perspective and
experience. ISTAT has very strong roots in
our most developed aviation markets, but
the signs of increased globalization are all
around us. Our membership is increasingly
global, and I believe the foundation must
strive to reﬂect this global diversity and
to serve its members effectively around
the world. Please don’t hesitate to share
your views with me or any of the foundation trustees—we welcome and value your
input.
