Four MCA
Presidents
Speak
BY JAMES CARELESS
The Western Journal of Mechanical, Plumbing and Piping Contracting is the official collaborative publication of the Mechanical
Contractors Associations of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Each of these regional associations works
hard to meet the needs of its members. But who are the industry volunteer presidents who run these associations? To find
out, we contacted them all!

Tim Padfield, President of MCA Alberta
As the second-generation owner of Pad-Car
Mechanical Ltd. in Medicine Hat, MCA Alberta
President Tim Padfield says he had "the fundamentals and importance of belonging to
MCA well instilled into me" by his father Ken
Padfield and his father's partner Rand Carvell;
both of whom held executive positions with
the association.
As for Tim Padfield's own career of volunteer
service? "I joined the MCA board of directors
in 2005 after serving as a board of director on

Since assuming the Presidency of MCA Alberta,
Tim Padfield has been working on many goals.
His top priority is "to have MCA influence our
industry partners to achieve prompt payment
legislation, standardize fair contracts, standardize change order guidelines, improve quality of
construction documentation, streamline efficient
education program and establish a strong contingent of certified Gold Standard Service contractors in Alberta," said Padfield. "While we have
made progress on all of these items currently, I
truly hope to accomplish prompt payment legis-

the Alberta Construction Association and the
president of the Medicine Hat Construction
Association," he replied. "I have held a position
on the board since that time and the executive
until becoming President in 2017."
Having grown up with MCA Alberta , Padfield
actually decided to become President "several
years ago, when I could see that we had an excellent progressive team of directors and MCA staff
working together and truly focused on the needs
of our members and industry," he said. "My fundamental goal as the President is to make our
association the voice of our members and provide
an association that truly tries to provide services, be it lobbying, education, communication
or regulation influence, that make our members
more viable and profitable."

lation during my term. So far we have already
established a growing list of Gold Standard
Service contractors and technicians in 2017, as
well as a greatly enhanced education program
and offerings."
As for the future of MCA Alberta? "We have
seen MCA have great influence of late and be a
leader in changes in our industry, and I hope to
see MCA continue to focus as the voice of our
contractors and associates to tackle the tough
issues head on; and become the primary choice
for education and communication amongst our
membership," Padfield said. "I truly believe being
an MCA member should be something that means
your company is more profitable, better educated,
better prepared for change and more respected
in the industry."
