Your name is really unique. Is
there a story there? Also, do you
have any suggestions on how to
pronounce it correctly?
Anupam Berry Bose. UH-noo-pum
(emphasis is on the first syllable. Most
people put it on the second). When I
lived in Texas everyone pronounced it
Anna-pam; I hated it! My parents immigrated from India to the U.S. when I
was two years old and my name actually
means "unique." One interesting thing
is it is a boy's name; it's the Victor to
Victoria. But since we moved to the U.S.
not many people know that.

Why were you attracted to
MHI and to this industry as a
career choice?
ABB. It found me. I didn't even
know MHI existed when they reached
out to me. However, I've been involved
in the material handling industry for
quite some time. I had an engineering
background when I got started in the
automotive industry in Michigan, and
worked on my master's degree in engineering part-time while I was there.
When Intel reached out to me to join
their team, I moved to Arizona. I was
in their automated material handling
group and managed projects for existing and new factories, from project
initializing to installing equipment. I
have a bachelor's of mechanical engineering from University of Michigan
and a master's of engineering from
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
What was your first impression
of this industry, and has it
changed since then?
ABB. It is interesting. My fist impression is from the semi-conductor "cleanroom" manufacturing side, which
consisted of highly automated equipment.
I did not have a broad view, at that point. It
was physically moving things through the
facility. When I came here, and saw how
big a definition material handling covered.
That surprised me. It can be something
as simple as a caster to the complex automated equipment I was used to.

What do you think are the best
skills that you bring to your
position at MHI?
ABB. I am good project manager. I am
very organized, and I get things done. I
manage eight out of MHI's 15 Industry
Groups and ensure all our projects
and initiatives move forward that add
value to the members. Since I do have a
background in material handling, I can
bring some additional insight and ideas
that other people may not have thought
of doing.
What's a goal you have for
yourself that you want to
accomplish in your role at MHI in
the next year?
ABB. We have 15 Industry Groups
and they are all at different levels of
growth. I am trying to get more cohesion
amongst the groups and how things are
done, with the goal of having all of the
groups supplying a basic level of value to
their members.
What aspect of the industry is
most intriguing to you?
ABB. All the new things that are
coming up on the horizon and how it
is growing! Growth for the future would
be to expand the product sectors in our
Industry Groups.
What is at the top of your
bucket list?
ABB. I'd like to live overseas for
some time, probably somewhere in
Europe. I'd love to live in France or Italy
or Switzerland, perhaps.
If you could transport back in
time, what would you tell your
15-year-old self?
Buy a lot of Google!
