@MPIGNY - Spring/Summer 2017 - 6
Suzanne Medcalf Mulligan
2016-2017 MPIGNY President
I hope you all had a wonderful winter. I am writing this message in
February and, as of now, it has seemed somewhat mild!
So much has gone on in our city and our country in the past few months. I think
that Paul Van Deventer and Richard Harper put it best in their joint statement as
Meetings Mean Business co-chairs when they wrote, "Our industry is all about
bringing people together, fostering relationships, driving positive outcomes and
supporting communities." Regardless of what happens in the political world, the
strength of our industry lies in our communities, so please know that we stand
together as a community.
Our chapter has accomplished quite a lot since my last message - we hosted
our MPIGNY Board of Directors retreat at the William Vale hotel in Brooklyn, we
worked with the Event Leadership Institute on a successful webinar, we celebrated
Mardi Gras in New York City at Pier A Harbor House, and we welcomed Melanie
Whelan, CEO of SoulCycle, at our March education event at the Four Seasons Hotel
New York Downtown.
On March 8, our Board of Directors met to discuss the last few months of our
2016-2017 year, and I was proud to meet with our chapter leaders on International
Women's Day, as so many of our chapter leaders are women.
Earlier this year, we appointed a brand new position to our Board of Directors,
Director of Corporate Social Responsibility, and we were lucky enough to have
Judi McLaughlin from HelmsBriscoe take over the role. I am so proud to announce
that we will be partnering with two local organizations - NY Cares and iMentor - to
help facilitate volunteer opportunities within our community to our members. We
will also be partnering with a third organization whose mission is international and
close to our industry, and we will announce this initiative soon.
Lastly, as we wind down our year, I want to say thank you to our Board of
Directors, our committee chairs and our committee members for everything they
do to keep this chapter running. Your dedication has inspired me throughout this
year, and I am so proud of everything we have accomplished!
As always, if you have feedback or ideas please email me -
REGARDLESS OF WHAT HAPPENS IN THE
POLITICAL WORLD, THE STRENGTH OF OUR
INDUSTRY LIES IN OUR COMMUNITIES,
SO PLEASE KNOW THAT WE STAND
TOGETHER AS A COMMUNITY.
