@MPIGNY - Winter 2014 - (Page 5)
hope you had a fantastic holiday and your new year is off to a great start. Mine certainly
is as I step into the role of president of the greatest chapter within MPI. Before I speak on
what's upcoming, I would be remiss if I did not take time to thank Meghan Schilt, CMP, for an
outstanding 18-month term as president.
In September 2008, I attended a volunteer/committee fair at the Hard Rock on 7th at 42nd.
I had only been in NYC for about a year and did not know that many people. What I did know
was I had transferred my MPI membership to the Greater New York chapter and I needed
to get involved. It was at that event where I met Meghan, and she recruited me to sit on the
NYMix committee. Since that day, I watched Meghan make very strategic decisions that
would eventually land her in the role of President for one of MPI's largest and most prominent
chapters. She quickly made connections within the MPI Global organization, and we soon
saw very prominent people - Cindy D'Aoust, Mike Dominquez and Brad Shanklin - personally
supporting our chapter. Meghan's talent of recruiting interest, increasing awareness and
driving involvement is rarely found. I am confident I speak for the entire board when I say, we
have all learned from Meghan over the past few years.
So, what's next you may ask, and that would be a great question because we are only
going to increase the momentum within our chapter. Meghan has assumed the role of
Immediate Past President and will lead the charge for nominations into the 2014-2015 fiscal
year. She will also be working to review and update our bylaws. As your President, I will be
working to fully execute the business plan we created last May. This includes our education
programs, our revamped Auction/Mixology fundraiser, our Genie Awards and many other
initiatives. By the time you read this, your board of directors will have just met in New York
City for a two day mid-year retreat at the newly renovated Park Central Hotel. We reviewed
our metrics, our financials, our membership and most importantly, planned for the mid-year
satisfaction survey. THIS is where you come in!
Each year, MPI Global sends out a satisfaction survey to all members. This survey is used
to determine your satisfaction with the direction of your chapter. With that said, one of the
biggest issues chapters across the U.S. have is getting people to respond. I would like to ask
each of you to take the five minutes and rate your chapter on the progress we have made.
Part of the funding we receive from MPI Global is directly tied to the number of responses
AND our scores. Please remember, our progress is ongoing and we need your reinforcement
In closing, please allow me to say thank you! Thank you for putting your trust in me to
guide the chapter to an even higher level. We have a great team in place, and I am thrilled to
be working with each of them and for you.
Wishing you the happiest of New Year's!
