incoming Director of the mPi Toronto Leadership Team

day IN ThE LIfE: my day begins at 5:45 a.m. (so early!) but as a
commuter, sleeping in is a privilege i can only enjoy on the weekends. After
i finish my "getting ready" morning routine, i usually prepare my lunch for the day and
whip up a fresh natural juice on my juicer, or a filling smoothie to have on my way to work. eating
healthy is important to me, so eating breakfast and making my own lunches is an everyday thing.
i leave my house around 7 a.m. every day to catch the commuter train from the suburbs into the city. Lucky for me, because i live
further away, i always grab a comfy seat. my time on the Go Train is "me" time. i like to relax, read industry magazines, catch up on
social media, listen to music, and get some sleep! once in Toronto, i hop on a short subway ride to our offices. Door to door my commute
is about 1.5 hours each way (i know - am i crazy?), but there's something special about working in the city in the middle of the hustle and
bustle of it all, yet going home to a quiet, calming and beautiful place with lots of green space at the end of the day.
morning is my time to catch up on emails (but not before fueling with some caffeine) and is usually followed by back-to-back
meetings and phone conversations with clients, suppliers and vendors! i am so thankful for my office headphones, otherwise
i would have the phone stuck to my ear!
for lunch, there usually isn't one. A terrible habit in our industry, i feel, is that we are always on the go and rarely take time
for ourselves. i often eat my lunch at my desk as do many in our team. often we will be invited to supplier lunches and day-time
events. i really love attending these because it's a great time to connect or reconnect with industry partners. After all, that is
what our world is about: PeoPLe.
After lunch, i am usually back on track with more meetings, phone calls and emails. You'd think one would get tired of the
"same old, same old," but the truth is, no day is ever the same, and that is one of the reasons i love my job so much.
After work, if i don't have an evening event to execute or an industry event to attend, i like to go to the gym and head home for
some much needed relaxing - though "relaxing" rarely happens, since i often manage multiple social media accounts and other
mPi projects on my spare time.
our jobs are stressful, day in and day out, and it is important to give ourselves time to do what we enjoy outside of work.
Whether working out, seeing friends or spending time with family, it is always important to leave work behind when possible.
i have made it a common practice to noT look at my Blackberry or answer emails after 5 p.m. (unless urgent) so that i can attempt
to maintain that desired "work-life" balance.
my day usually ends around 11 p.m. (though my goal is always to go to bed no later than 10 p.m. and that never happens) just to
do it all over again the next day.
Although i might be describing a typical day at the office, the truth is there are plenty of days that look a lot different. Whether
executing all-day events, doing site inspections, traveling all over north America, attending mPi events and/or other education
sessions, etc., each day is filled with different kinds of excitement and new fires to put out. The rush of it all makes me love my
career, and the relationships and friendships i have created make me love this industry! @
