TRAVELING FOR WEC:
WHAT WILL YOU
DO FIRST IN
BY SUSANNA FLORES
SAN FRANCISCO TRAVEL
an Francisco is constantly reinventing itself,
making it hard to answer the question: "What's
new?" If I have to narrow down my long
list, however, I am looking forward to eating
contemporary Mexican cuisine at Arguello
Restaurant in the Presidio Officer's Club. Then
I hope to get a drink at the Hotel Zephyr in Fisherman's Wharf.
Finally, I will try my best to swing a site visit at The Gotham
Club, a speakeasy-style private venue behind the scoreboard
at AT&T Park.
I asked the same question of some of the members of our
meeting and events community headed to San Francisco for MPI
WEC in August, and this is what they shared:
sarah Bondar, senior account executive,
the charles group
always wanted to experience
firsthand. There's no better way to
take in the city than on something
they are known for!"

"I look forward to eating the shaking beef at the Slanted Door and
taking a cable car ride."
"The thing I am looking forward to doing first when I get
to SF for MPI WEC is taking a walk around the city and
venturing down to the Fisherman's Wharf to take a look
around and eat some amazing seafood! I also hope one day
to have time to fit in a quick sightseeing tour - in and around

"I guess what I most look forward to as a "foodie" is the
opportunity to try so many new restaurants but to also make the
pilgrimage to Alice Waters' Chez Panisse, where I know that I
will experience something that speaks about the locale, slow
food and celebrating nature's local bounties."

"I am most looking forward to starting some Christmas shopping
in San Francisco; I have the first flight out of Newark and will
arrive well before the start of the conference at 9 a.m. Pacific."

"I am really looking forward to connecting with my MPI friends
from around the world in one of my favorite cities in the world! It
will be wonderful to explore and connect with people in a city that
is so vibrant and fun!"
"I'm excited to sneak away for some sinful breads and pastries
from Tartine. Then I'll have to walk it all off before heading to
Boulettes Larder at the Embarcadero to peruse their locally
sourced food stuffs and have a snack ... and maybe a cocktail."
tracy Feinsilver, director of operations, Mining indaba
I plan to take a walk over to my favorite little bakery in Chinatown
or do a jog through the city to take in the sights, sounds, energy of
the people and beauty of the skyline.
And the results are unanimous! Everyone really wants to eat
when they get to SF. I am not surprised! Keep up to date on all
things WEC and SF by following WEC on Twitter at @WEC15 and
@sfmeetings. If you haven't registered go to www.mpiweb.org
and do so ASAP. I am looking forward to sharing some new
experiences with you in San Francisco this August! @
