ADVANCING MEDICAL MEETINGS AND HEALTHCARE COMPLIANCE I n recent years, regulations and restrictions have made planning medical meetings more complex than ever. For those who specialize in the area, there are continuing education opportunities that offer professional development and advancement. Mpi's hMcc MPI is recognized for providing premier education and professional development opportunities to its members and the meeting and event industry at large. Now MPI brings this commitment to the Life Science meeting segment by offering the Healthcare Meeting Compliance Certificate (HMCC). The HMCC course is designed for those who need a broader understanding of a full range of healthcare regulatory topics. It is a perfect fit for those who are involved in planning and reporting transparency and spend, as well as those suppliers who provide services and products to the healthcare industry. The HMCC course examines fundamental information on healthcare compliance regulations, laws and techniques for managing healthcare meetings. MPI has partnered with the Center for Workforce & Organizational Development at Saint Louis University to bring its members the Healthcare Meeting Compliance Certificate. The "Certificate of Proficiency" is endorsed by SLU and offers validation and competency in healthcare meeting compliance. The HMCC is an accredited program through 20 @MPIGNY suMMeR 2015 SLU and can earn the student Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Often the HMCC Programs are offered in conjunction with other industry events, including WEC. For more information, visit www.mpiweb.org/ professionaldevelopment/hmcc. the cMp-hc The Convention Industry Council (CIC) launched its CMP-HC ® certification in 2013. The CMP-HC is a certification program specifically developed for those working in the healthcare meeting industry. It is designed to identify those who have mastered the knowledge needed to be a successful healthcare meeting professional. This is a subspecialty of the CMP program; therefore only those who hold a current CMP certification are eligible to take the exam. If you pass the CMP-HC exam, your new designation will be CMP-HC. Anyone who works in the healthcare meeting field knows that there are specific regulations, laws and best practices that must be followed when conducting a healthcare-focused meeting. Only highly knowledgeable professionals can successfully manage the production of these meetings. Those who hold the CMP-HC designation have demonstrated this knowledge. For more information, visit www.conventionindustry.org/cMp/ cMphealthcare. a Member's view Elizabeth Winstanley, CMP-HC, Director, National Accounts for the Diplomat Resort & Spa and a member of MPIGNY, was one of the first to receive the CMP-HC designation. Winstanley says physician or healthcare provider meetings are unique because they are held to a higher standard since the spend on these meetings can now be scrutinized by the public through the Open Payments Act. "Hotels that are well versed in the PhRMA and AdvaMed codes and that are familiar with the requirements of the Open Payments Act can help planners by addressing rate, meal caps, billing and perception concerns upfront during the sourcing stages," she says. Winstanley says certifications like the MPI's HMCC and the CMP-HC are a logical progression for anyone with a career within the healthcare industry. She recommends using those who were among the first classes to receive the designation as a resource: "I would encourage those considering taking the CPM-HC exam to reach out to those within this network and gain advice for how best to prepare for the exam. [The CMP-HC] is an experience-based certification, so focusing on areas within the industry that you are not as familiar with would be most helpful." She adds that, "Knowledge is power and truly understanding the unique nuances of the healthcare industry can only help you be more effective and successful in your job. While these designations add credibility, they also show a commitment to this specific market through the tenure of experience that is required for the distinction." @ http://www.mpiweb.org/ http://www.conventionindustry.org/cMp/
