and, in just an hour, they constructed and
tested almost 400 mechanical hands for
individuals who had lost their hands due
to things such as landmines and disease.
In just one hour, our team created a
device that would put a smile on the face
of a child or adult that would once again
have the ability to grasp a cup or write
with a pencil.
We all joined MPI with different
expectations. Perhaps it was to enhance
our professional network, to satisfy a
work requirement or to give back to those
who are where you were 10 years ago
just beginning their career. Some of these
expectations were fulfilled for me at WEC
and when I have attended chapter events.
No matter the expectation, what my time
at WEC also showed me was that when
you combine simple resources, such as a
pen and nametag-like sticker, or a small
amount of time with individuals and teams
that are engaged, the return on your own
personal involvement is infinite. Candy
Chang may have started a transformation,
but it was the entire neighborhood that
got engaged to make the change happen.
I joined MPIGNY earlier this year because
my peers saw I wanted to be part of a
transformation that not only can impact
my own goals and expectations but also
impact others as well.
Now, taking what I learned at WEC
and as one of our chapter leaders, I
would like to extend that same helping
hand to all MPIGNY members. Do you
have an hour? Do you have resources
to share? Do you want to be part of the
MPIGNY transformation? I hope so. For
me, it was as simple as saying yes and
then being actively engaged in an event
such as WEC 2013. @
