IN TORONTO FOR YOUR NEXT
Dante Raphael Concepcion
s a consultant and developer of
internationally recognized spirit brand
campaigns; bar concept & design
development; and hospitality driven
activations - I've experienced my fair share of events
within a multitude of various bar venues.
The hardest part about hosting any type of event is
finding a venue that will cater to your specific purpose
and demographic. Without a doubt, the "bar" is a
sorely misunderstood and under-tapped venue when
Whether you're hosting a networking event, client dinner,
or a company celebration-a bar might not always be your
first choice, but it can be the right choice.
Here are my favourite bars for each type of function:
TRACK & FIELD - College Street
An adult indoor playground, Track & Field is a casual
venue for some fun team-building. They offer two lanes of
both Bocce ball and Deck Shuffleboard and say they have
"an unmatched enthusiasm for games generally played by
the elderly." No pretentiousness - just classic, adult-time fun.
THE CLIENT DINNER
FIGO - Richmond Street
Need to host a client meeting but want to avoid the same
ol' steak dinner? Figo, which opened last Fall, is the latest
restaurant concept from Charles Khabouth. Contemporary
and Italian inspired, Figo offers an expansive restaurant
space, stunning modern design, and some downright
delicious food. Step up your dining game and bring your
clients or your team here. It's a showstopper.
COOL, CASUAL, INTIMATE NETWORKING SPACE
LINWOOD ESSENTIALS - Queen Street West
If you're looking for an intimate space to host a small
gathering or mixer, Linwood Essentials on Queen Street
West is one of your best bets. This venue features friendly
staff, cozy booths, delicious craft cocktails, a bar designed
to look like a library, and décor to spark conversation,
Linwood provides the ideal atmosphere for a gathering of up
to 40 people. A bonus: they're not open to the general public
until 7pm on weekdays, so you might be able to snag a great
deal on a private function during or just-after work hours. Did I
mention they have an awesome classic popcorn maker?
THE CORPORATE, NOT-SO-CORPORATE PARTY
THE ADDISONS RESIDENCE - Wellington Street West
Everyone knows The Addisons throw the best parties.
Think of The Addisons as an extension of your own luxury
home. Three different rooms that seamlessly flow together
and combine plenty of lounge seating, three full bars,
shuffleboard, foosball, air hockey and more-perfect for
entertaining. Oh, and their lead mixologist just happens to
be Canada's only Master Tequilier. Arriba!
THE VERSATILE SPACE WITH A VIEW
THE THOMPSON HOTEL ROOFTOP - Wellington Street West
Location. Location. Location. The Thompson Rooftop
lounge offers enclosed and open rooftop space, modern
low-profile seating and a bar with some of the city's best
drink-slingers, making it perfect for both formal and
informal gatherings of all types. Take a step outside, and
you'll be greeted with one of the best views the city of
Toronto has to offer.
LET THE EVENT COME TO YOU
GRAFFITI HOSPITALITY - Citywide
Don't feel like herding a large party into a venue...
and dealing with parking? Bring the party to you. Graffiti
Hospitality offers custom spirit tastings, cocktail workshops
and a full-range of team-building exercises that can be done
in your home or office. ●
