Meeting MPI Toronto - March/April 2016 - (Page 25)
CHAPTER SPEAKS: What is the
Best MPI Event You Ever Attended?
"I would say the 2014 Holiday
Gala. It was so nice to celebrate
the Holiday season with friends,
colleagues and industry peers.
It's such a joyous time of year!
What made this event so special
was the brand new venue. Delta
had just opened its doors to the
south core (SOCO) 4 days prior.
It was nice to be some of the first
people in to see the space. The
reception allowed for valuable
networking and the set up and
variety of food stations was
Carly Silberstein, CEO at

that Doug Bolger of Learn2
facilitated had by far the biggest
impact on my learning experiences
with MPI. Due to how engaging
they were I also feel the leadership
bonded exceptionally well."
Darryl Nielsen, Meetings,
Incentives & Celebrations at
"For me, the best Chapter event I
attended was a Professional Development
(PD) session in the fall of 2007 just after
joining MPI. It was about business etiquette,
but what made that event special for me
was the fact that I was recruited to volunteer
with the PD Committee. (Yes, I started
helping out that same day.)"
Marcelo DeOliveira, Events Manager at
The International Centre
"That 2011 AGM was amazing and
one of the only times that we have ever
attempted an AGM at breakfast time
(my favourite meal of the day). The
International Centre's menu options
were phenomenal - mini eggs Benedict
on a bed of hashed brown potatoes,
mini pancakes, mini yogurt parfaits, and
everything was so tasty."
Pat Cluett, Director of Sales and
Marketing at The Glenerin Inn & Spa
"I loved the 2015 Awards gala. The team did a fantastic
job transforming the MTCC and adding interesting decor
elements. It is always great when you can enjoy the
evening celebrating with your industry colleagues and
also get some ideas for your next event."
Arianna McLaughlin, Event Manager at Deloitte
"Each year the TEC committee
manages to outdo the year before.
So while my answer would be last
year's TEC in Blue Mountain, if you
ask me in a few months I will likely
be the 2016 TEC."
Tim Whalen, CMP, Executive
Meeting Manager at Fallsview
"It was the 2011 AGM. I was a brand new member,
and it was my first event. I was nervous and excited all
at the same time. I watched in awe as our immediate
past president, Kelly Shannon, spoke to the audience
and how eloquent she was. Then the current president,
Brenda Carter, CMP, CMM, took the stage and again,
calmed my nerves just by speaking about the community
I had become a part of. I knew at that very moment, my
life would never be the same and I found somewhere
I belonged. ... If it wasn't for my MPI family and the
education and networking opportunities we have had, I
would not be where I am today."
Stephanie Rapko, CMP, Event Coordinator at
Meetings & Incentive Travel
"My favorite event so far has been the 2015
Awards Gala. The decor was amazing and the
event offered many features to keep attendees
entertained during the reception. Also, meeting
Jessi Cruickshank (the host for the evening) made
a lasting impression."
Ellen Ettinger, Events Manager at The
"All of the TEC's in Niagara Falls and
Blue Mountain have been memorable
for both the education and quality of
networking. The event that stands out
the most is a dinner in the underground
barrel cellar at Peller Estates. The food
and wine pairings were delicious with an
explanation from chef before each course."
