Motor Coach Canada: Tour & Travel Canada 2017 - 81

Saskatchewan

Regions
The province is divided into the following
seven regions:
* East Central Region: East Central has
four provincial parks including Good Spirit
Lake, Duck Mountain, Greenwater Lake
and Wildcat Hill. Add to that regional and
community parks, as well as superb golf
courses. Fishing in the area's lakes is second to none. For bird-watchers, the region
offers natural areas such as Foam Lake
Heritage Marsh, Ponass Lake and Valeport
Marsh. An interesting feature of this area
is Little Manitou Lake, so rich in minerals
that it is impossible for anything to sink in
its waters.

SASKATCHEWAN

The people, the land, the sky and the spirit:
Saskatchewan, the "Land of the Living Skies",
is a place like no other. If seeing is believing,
then you simply have to see Saskatchewan.
Otherwise, you won't believe the expanse of
the land, or the feeling of serenity that the
constant, distant horizon brings to your soul.
You won't believe the size of the endless sky
overhead, or the vibrant colours that fill it at
sunrise, sunset or midnight. You won't believe
the down-to-earth, welcoming nature of the
people you'll meet, or the range of cultures
and experiences that have come together to
create this unique and spirited society.
And unless you see it, you won't believe
Saskatchewan's north: tens of thousands of
lakes and rivers teeming with fish and ready
to be explored; enormous forest wilderness
areas with abundant wildlife and breathtaking, ever-changing scenery; a place where
you can seek out your own special corner
of the world, and feel the sense of peace
that comes when you know in your heart
that you've found it. See Saskatchewan, and
start believing!
From the Plains Indian word, "kisiskatchewan," meaning "the river that flows swiftly,"
Saskatchewan lies at the heart of the
Canadian prairies. While many envision the
province as a stretch of free prairie meeting
an open sky, half of its 651,900 square kilometres (more than a quarter million square
miles) are covered by lush forest. The province also features extensive river systems,
breath-taking waterfalls and 100,000 lakes.
The hiking enthusiast will enjoy Cypress Hills,
where some points reach 1,392 metres
above sea level, or the Duck Mountain and
Moose Mountain regions. A third of the province is used as farm land; Saskatchewan
produces more than 54 per cent of the wheat
grown in Canada.

* North Region: Prince Albert National
Park anchors a surrounding vacation
resort area that boasts outstanding golf
courses and vacation/resort amenities at
McPhee, Emma, Christopher, Anglin and
Candle Lakes. Further west, Meadow Lake
Provincial Park has more than 900 campsites and top-notch interpretive programs;
to the north east, there's superb fishing
and whitewater canoeing at Lac La Ronge
Provincial Park. Winter visitors will enjoy
cross-country skiing, dogsledding, and
ice fishing.
* Regina: Canada's picturesque Queen
city has plenty of features for visitors to
explore. The 930-hectare Wascana Centre,
one of North America's largest urban
parks, is home to a number of attractions
- Legislative Building, Royal Saskatchewan
Museum, Mackenzie Art Gallery and the
Saskatchewan Science Centre. The city
is home to Canada's only training facility
for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police
(RCMP), where visitors can watch the
Sunset Retreat Ceremony during the summer months. On the same grounds is the
RCMP Heritage Centre, which provides a
fascinating look at the RCMP's storied history through exhibits, tours and multi-media
presentations.
* Saskatoon: Bisected by the beautiful
South Saskatchewan River, the growing
city of Saskatoon exudes a young and lively
vibe. Tourists can explore the Meewasin
Valley Trail, 21 kilometres of riverbank trails
through the heart of Saskatoon. For those
with an interest in history and culture, the
Western Development Museum boasts

"1910 Boomtown," a recreated turn-ofthe-century main street. Wanuskewin
Heritage Park interprets over 6,000 years
of Northern Plains Indian culture.
* Southeast Region: The Southeast region
is defined by the Qu'Appelle Valley, where
natural areas such as Echo Valley, Katepwa
Point and Crooked Lake provincial parks
are found, to name a few. The area is also
home to Motherwell Homestead National
Historic Park, which provides insight into
prairie pioneer life and the development
of agriculture. In total, the area has seven
lakes, five provincial parks and 17 regional
parks, offering a wealth of hiking, camping
and canoeing opportunities. There are
60 golf courses, including the newly renovated Golf Kenosee, an 18-hole course in
Moose Mountain Park.
* Southwest Region: This region is home
to Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park, a
forested area that rises more than
600 metres above the surrounding plains.
It's home to rare wildflowers and more
than 200 species of birds and mammals.
Immerse yourself in the rich cowboy culture
at one of the guest ranches. Grasslands
National Park preserves one of the largest remaining tracts of native prairie and
the world's darkest Dark Sky Preserve.
Eastend's T.rex Discovery Centre showcases an almost complete Tyrannosaurus
Rex skeleton discovered in the region.
* West Central Region: The region's
Battlefords Provincial Park offers camping,
boating, fishing and hiking. Some of the
best RV parks in Canada can be found
here. Natural areas like Jackfish Lake, the
