Festivals and Events
Aurora Borealis in Yellowknife, NWT
(best in December-March)
For viewing the aurora, the NWT has two
important advantages over other locations.
The landscape is relatively flat, so the full
auroral display can be seen from most
vantage points. Weather is also a factor -
we have more clear nights than mountainous
or oceanside locations at the same latitude.
Yellowknife has over 240 potential viewing
nights per year. So reliable is this midnight
show that it draws thousands of visitors
