AGC IN ACTION AGC of America and Carolinas AGC Push for Greater Work Zone Safety May 2016 AGC of America partnered with the Carolinas AGC and the North Carolina Department of Transportation to release the results of its highway work zone safety survey earlier this year during a media event in Greensboro at a highway work zone. During the event, North Carolina's Secretary of Transportation Nick Tennyson reminded drivers that work zone safety was "in their hands" while reminding drivers to slow down and pay attention when they see orange cones. AGC spokesman Brian Turmail released the details of the highway work zone safety survey, noting that 39 percent of firms suffered from vehicles crashing into their work zones during the past 12 months. He cautioned that workers are at risk and noted that drivers and passengers are even more likely to be injured or killed in work zone crashes. Daniel Lieberman with member firm Flatiron Construction talked about how important work zone safety was to his team. AGC used the media event to once again call on federal officials to act on AGCbacked measures included in last year's surface transportation law that required the Federal Highway Administration to fund the installation of positive barriers along most highway projects. ◆ @Constr uctor Ma g S E P T E MB E R / O C T O B E R 2 0 1 6 | www.constructormagazine.com 47 http://www.constructormagazine.com/
