But the producer, Chaney Enterprises of Waldorf, MD, regularly and willingly supplies much more: a sense of community and generosity through its longtime commitment to charitable causes. It is this commitment that resulted in Chaney being honored with the 2013 NRMCA Concrete Cares Award, bestowed each year by the NRMCA Manufacturers, Products & Services (MPS) Division. In bestowing this year’s award this past March at NRMCA’s Annual Convention in San Antonio, NRMCA recognized Chaney for its “holistic approach to community service and its company-wide dedication to the communities it serves.” While economic recovery has been slow for our industry, employees at Chaney Enterprises continue to support a wide array of charitable organizations, donating 10 percent of its profits to worthy causes. In 2012 the company donated nearly $360,000 to community projects in eight Maryland counties, supporting fundraising events, capital improvements, education programs and needed materials and supplies, including nearly $12,000 to support community athletic teams. Also in 2012 Chaney Enterprises donated concrete and aggregate to support Eagle Scout projects, Habitat for Humanity, Christmas in April and local schools, churches and nonprofits, including the Charles County Hospice House, Homes for Our Troops, the Prince George’s County Lighthouse Project’s Family Crisis Center and End Hunger in Calvert County, among others. Chaney also donated materials to make the Quiet Waters Park Reading and Butterfly Garden and Watershed Education Experience in Annapolis, MD, a reality.
