Rural Water - Quarter 4, 2017 - 11
FROM THE PRESIDENT
Makes a Difference
BY STEVE FLETCHER,
It is hard to
believe that my first year of being your president is already over. My, how time
flies. I've been to many of your state conferences, I've testified in front of two Congressional
Committees and, along with the officers and NRWA's CEO & Deputy CEO, met with EPA
Administrator Pruitt in Tulsa, OK. NRWA along with the Department of Labor have initiated an
"Apprenticeship Program" that will bring youth into our industry.
Earlier this year, the President's skinny budget took away funding for many of the programs
that NRWA and rural America count on. However, NRWA's "Save Rural Development" campaign
was successful, due to your incredible participation all across the nation. The funds have been
put back into the 2018 budget because Congress listened to you! I am optimistic that we will be
successful in the future because of the great people who are Rural Water and rural America.
I write this just a few days after the 2017 Water Pro Conference. The conference was great.
At our board meeting, the NRWA Board of Directors took positive action on establishing a credit
union, establishing a 501 (c)3 corporation to be able to accept donations, and started a captive
insurance program. These actions, taken by the Board of Directors, invest in our future as an
organization. We believe these programs will return huge benefits in the coming years.
Thank you for everything that you do to make NRWA and rural America great! ●
EARLIER THIS YEAR, THE PRESIDENT'S
SKINNY BUDGET TOOK AWAY FUNDING FOR
MANY OF THE PROGRAMS THAT NRWA AND
RURAL AMERICA COUNT ON. HOWEVER,
NRWA'S "SAVE RURAL DEVELOPMENT"
CAMPAIGN WAS SUCCESSFUL, DUE TO YOUR
INCREDIBLE PARTICIPATION ALL ACROSS
