As IPAA marks the end of its 85th anniversary year, I'd like to thank Mike Watford, the association's 2013-2015 chairman, for his enduring efforts to keep the association and our industry in good hands during difficult times. During his tenure, markets and prices have dictated many of the ups-and-downs for your businesses, but we've also faced major legislative and regulatory battles. Such as: * Lifting the crude oil export ban and expediting natural gas exports * Protecting the industry's key tax provisions that encourage capital investment * Expanding access and eliminating barriers to federal lands onshore and offshore * Preventing bad regulations on hydraulic fracturing, methane and ozone * Providing access to new capital markets * Litigating against costly new federal rules * Educating tomorrow's energy leaders * Correcting the record with the news media and anti-fossil fuel activist groups As Mike hands over the chairmanship to a new set of IPAA volunteer leaders, we will continue to tackle these challenges and create new opportunities to keep our industry a potential game-changer for the American economy. In this issue of Access, we sit down for an interview with Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) who serves as the chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources (page 18). She, along with Senator Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) have been champions of crude oil exports, and hope to see a victory similar to the House of Representatives' passage of export legislation.
