China's Baoding Gangxing Paper has
recently ordered two new tissue machines to
be installed at its sole mill in Baoding city,
Hebei province. Kawanoe Zoki has been
signed up to provide the units. One has a
capacity of 17,000 tonnes/yr with a trim width
of 2.76 m and a design speed of 1,100 m/min.
The other, with a trim width of 2.76 m and a
design speed of 1,300 m/min, is able to churn
out around 20,000 tonnes/yr of tissue. Both
of them are expected to come online by the
end of this year.
Sichuan Xilong Biomass Material, formerly known as Sichuan Xilong Paper, started
up a new 15,000 tonne/yr tissue machine last
month at its mill in Meishan city in China's
southwestern province of Sichuan. Provided
by Chinese supplier Baotuo Paper Machinery
Engineering, the unit has a trim width of 2.86
m and a design speed of 1,000 m/min. This is
the first of six identical tissue machines that
the company ordered for the site last May to
come on stream. It is also reportedly mulling
over more expansions in the tissue sector to
take advantage of the ample bamboo supply
in the southwestern part of China.
Shantou Piaohe Paper has ordered a new
12,000 tonne/yr tissue machine for its sole
mill in Shantou city, in China's southern province of Guangdong. The company has signed
up Chinese supplier Baotuo Paper Machinery
Engineering to provide the unit. It will have
a trim width of 2.86 m and a design speed of
800 m/min. Startup is scheduled for August.
Suzano will invest around Brazilian Real
720 million by year-end in a set of projects
to diversify operations through higher-value
products, boost structural competitiveness,
cut costs, and enhance environmental initiatives. The investments will be used to build
two tissue lines, one at the Mucuri Unit in
Bahia state and the other at the Imperatriz
Unit in Maranhão state, and to build a lignin
production line at the Limeira Unit in São
Paulo state. The production of tissue, whose
startup is slated for this year, represents
another step in Suzano's strategy to diversify
the returns on its asset base, with the opening
up of new avenues of adjacent businesses by
capturing efficiency and profitability gains
in its operations.

all ancillary equipment.
Clearwater Paper Corporation has
announced plans to build a new tissue
machine and related converting equipment
for producing premium and ultra-premium
grades of private label tissue products at a
site adjacent to the company's existing facility in Shelby, NC. After an extensive analysis
of the anticipated market growth, costs, and
financial returns of a new paper machine, the
company will install a 200-in. Valmet NTT
tissue machine and related converting equipment. The new tissue machine will produce a
variety of high-quality private label premium
and ultra-premium bath, paper towel, and
napkin products. At full production capacity,
the new tissue machine is expected to produce approximately 70,000 tons/yr of tissue
products. The estimated cost for the project
includes approximately $283 million for the
tissue machine, converting equipment, and
buildings, and approximately $57 million for
The Italian Ministry of Economic
Development has signed a Euro 46.4 million ($49.2 million) "development contract"
with Cartiera Confalone, an Italian tissue

According to local newspaper Avellino Today,
the company will use this investment to open
a new plant. Details of the planned plant were
not immediately available. Cartiera Confalone
produces 20,000 tonnes/yr of tissue, paper
towels, and napkins for the retail and commercial markets.
In late 2016, A.Celli Paper received an
order confirmation by Grupo Corporativo
Papelera for the supply of a high-speed tissue
machine with a production capacity of 34,000
tonnes/yr (110 tonnes/day). The investment is
part of the Mexican group's growth plan that
aims at an important increase in production
capacity. The new machine, with a 2,650-mm
paper width at the pope reel and a maximum
operating speed of 2,000 m/min, is part of a
complete turnkey project that includes the
