system, automation, and drives. The new tissue
machine has a trim width of 2.85 meters and
a design speed of 1,600 m/min. It was initially
scheduled to start up at the end of 2015. 
Sofidel, Lucca, Italy, reports that the company has started construction for its new integrated tissue mill in Circleville, Ohio, USA.
The mill entered its first building phase with
a ceremony in mid-July that drew dozens of
elected officials. They included, among others,
Ohio Lt. Governor Mary Taylor, Congressman
Steve Stivers, State Senator Bob Peterson,
and State Representative Gary Scherer. The
Circleville plant is expected to become operational by 2018.
St. Croix Tissue, Baileyville, Me., USA,
reports that ABB, Westerville, Ohio, USA,
recently commissioned the electrical and
automation systems and equipment for its two
new tissue production machines. The first
machine started production earlier this year.
ABB's delivery for both machines at the new
mill includes quality control systems, tissue
machine drive systems, 800xA control systems, collaborative production management,
as well as motors, drives, and electrification
equipment and infrastructure, and a resident
service contract.
Stora Enso AB, Finland, reports that it
will divert 160,000 metric tpy of pulp capacity from NBSK (northern bleached softwood
kraft) pulp to fluff pulp production. The EUR
27 million investment at the Skutskär pulp
mill in Sweden targets growing demand from
the hygiene, non-wovens, and personal care
products markets. "Both hygiene and nonwoven products are a fast-growing market.
This investment will enable us to support
the growth of our customers and further
develop this business together with them,"
said Juan Carlos Bueno, EVP, Stora Enso's
Biomaterials division.
Tranlin Inc., Richmond, Va., USA, has
launched a plant-derived fertilizer line ahead
of its 2020 Tissue Startup in Virginia. The
VASTLY Better Roots soil amendment and
bio-stimulant products are an effective and
cost efficient way for farmers to improve longterm soil health, enhance nutrient uptake,
increase plant vigor, and boost yield. The
water-soluble fertilizer is available now in
granular and liquid forms in Virginia, followed soon by California, Texas, and Florida,
and eventually nationally. Tranlin is the U.S.
subsidiary of China-based Shandong Tranlin

Paper Co. that broke ground last October on
its first U.S. operation, a $2 billion facility
in Virginia.  
Vinda Group, Hong Kong, has entered
into a strategic cooperation framework
agreement with China National Pulp and
Paper Research Institute. The agreement
was jointly signed by: Anna WANG, chief
operating officer-mainland China of Vinda;
SUN Bo, secretary of the Institute, director
of China National Household Paper Industry
Association; Dr. CAO Zhen Lei, chairman of
Vinda International; and LI Chao Wang, vice
chair of Jiangmen Federation of Industry and
Commerce. Both parties believe that the collaboration provides a valuable opportunity to
leverage their respective resources and bring
mutual benefits and complementary advantages to each party.
Vrancart, Vrancea, Romania, has signed
an agreement to take over a majority stake in
tissue producer Rom Paper (Romania) for an
undisclosed sum. The acquisition is subject to
shareholder and antitrust approvals. The sales
agreement will be performed for a period of
two years and its amount will be influenced by
the financial results achieved by Rom Paper.
However, the value of the transaction cannot
exceed the threshold of 10 percent of the net
turnover of Vrancart.
SUPPLIERS
DeZURIK/APCO/Hilton, Sartell, Minn.,
USA, has released its new valve guide for the
pulp and paper industry (including tissue). The
guide, designed to help users navigate the valve
selection process, provides usage guidance
based on valve type, general specifications,
and common industry applications. DeZURIK
has a wide variety of valve styles to meet the
application requirements of the pulp and paper
industry, including the newest innovations in
control, gate, plug, butterfly, automatic air,
and check valves. DeZURIK manufactures
valves for basis weight control, paper stock,
liquor, steam, dilution water control, and
other applications.
Evoqua, Warrendale, Pa., USA, was
selected by energy developer DCO Energy LLC
to provide equipment and services for a new
$200 million, 50 MW biomass/wood wasteto-energy cogeneration project for Procter &
Gamble Co. in Albany, Ga., USA. The new
plant, to be built by DCO Energy, will provide
100 percent of the steam energy used by P&G's
Albany manufacturing facility. The steam
will be used mainly for drying tissue paper.

Scheduled for completion in mid-2017, the
plant will be known as Albany Green Energy.
It will be owned and operated by Constellation,
a subsidiary of Exelon Corp.
Solenis, Wilmington, Del., USA, a global
producer of specialty chemicals, has introduced a new Equipment Service Team, a
group of professionals specially trained to
service Solenis-owned chemical feed equipment at customer locations. The program was
launched in North America in early 2016 and
will begin rolling out in Europe, Middle East,
and Africa in mid-summer 2016. Full global
implementation is expected by the end of the
year. When the program is fully implemented,
customers will have rapid access to skilled
equipment technicians.

Valmet, Finland, has inaugurated its logistics center in the city of Araucária, in Paraná
state in Brazil. The center is Valmet's fifth
logistics center globally and serves the tissue,
pulp, paper, fiberboard, and other industries
across South America with spare parts and
components produced by Valmet and its local
suppliers. The inauguration ceremony was
attended by local authorities, customers, and
Valmet's management. "This is an important
milestone for Valmet in South America and
offers a concrete contribution to moving our
customers' performance forward," said Celso
Tacla, area president for South America at
Valmet, in his inauguration speech.
NEW TECHNOLOGIES
Amerplast, St. Petersburg, Russia, recently
announced plans to market a new innovative product in an important tissue segment.
Amerplast is to offer its customers a new innovative product, tissue bags, in the important
hygiene tissue segment, following the May
2016 signing of a cooperation agreement
with Gaviplas SL (Valencia, Spain). The new
product is designed to form a fast response to
market trends that show a rapidly growing
demand for more convenient tissue packaging.
