receives AsPI special
At its 2015 Spring Meeting in
February, ASPI honored Mark Watkins,
now retired from MeadWestvaco (MWV),
for his foundational support of the ASPI
Customer Alignment Initiative (CAI),
whereby suppliers have the opportunity
to hear directly from paper company
executives in order to better align themselves with that company's strategic and operational objectives.
Watkins championed the Initiative within MWV, securing
ASPI's first Customer Alignment Meeting there in the fall of
2008. Since then, seven CAI meetings have been conducted at
pulp company sites, and they continue to receive high marks
from papermakers and suppliers alike. ASPI sincerely appreciates Mark's dedication and support and is pleased to honor him
with this award.
Mark Watkins retired in September 2014 as senior vice president of MWV, where he had responsibility for corporate engineering, stewardship, sustainability, safety, health and environmental
issues. Watkins began his career in the paper industry in 1977 as
a process engineer at Union Camp's Franklin, Va., mill and later
served as vice president of technology for Mead Corporation.
