intouch | ASSOCIATION NEWS Forward Thinking TAPPI continues to look toward the prospects that provide its members and volunteers the most advanced technology and networking tools available. Most notably, these include the launch of its new website as well as a new member engagement platform for TAPPI members and committees. The New The new TAPPI website at has a completely redesigned search engine, userfriendly navigation tools and a more inviting design. The launch of the new website included an extensive upgrade; one of the most significant updates allows users to access the site in formats compatible with both mobile and tablet devices. We've made multiple improvements throughout the site, including integrated graphic images, the creation of individual pages for events and TAPPI courses, and giving TAPPI members the ability to easily and quickly search the online library of more than 20,000 papers, articles and news items. Although the launch of the site was initially met with constructive, though somewhat unfavorable feedback, TAPPI's web team was able to incorporate the suggestions and advice from members. The result is that the majority of users are now responding positively to the functionality and aesthetics of the new site. As 2016 progresses, TAPPI is confident that our new website will prove to be a valuable resource to members and non-members alike. The TAPPI team recruited 18 volunteers to participate in a Steering Committee to help investigate the limitations of the previous platform and establish goals for the functionality and user-friendliness of the new program. Committee volunteers represented the majority of TAPPI's 12 divisions, which created a diverse and formidable group to help ensure each division's requests for the online platform were understood. The committee initially met in December 2015, and provided feedback and suggestions about what it was looking for from the program's features and uses. Additionally, committee members were involved in the selection of a logo for the platform and provided input as to the most effective way to encourage its use among TAPPI's extensive membership. TAPPI Connect will provide an online resource for members, non-members and volunteers to collaborate, share knowledge, problem-solve and expand their personal and professional networks. Users can participate in real-time communication as well as create blogs, ask and answer questions, recruit volunteers and enhance their membership standing. The program will hold content for member and committee profiles, calendars, discussion threads and file sharing for things such as agendas, meeting minutes and manuscripts.
