Young Professionals Gather for Summit Meeting
Young Professionals met in March, to provide
TAPPI with feedback regarding their needs
and how to best structure their committee.
Sarah Muzzy from O’Neil Inc., volunteered
to chair the committee and John Vanderklok
from AstenJohnson will be vice chair. “I think
there are many wonderful opportunities to
make the Young Professionals a strong and
meaningful division of TAPPI, and I am glad
that others share the vision and drive to help
this group take shape,” said Muzzy.
The committee decided to start with
four core interest areas: Programming and
New Technology, Networking and Local
Sections, YP Awards and Recognition, and
YP Ambassadors, which will focus on committee development and student connections.
In addition to the leadership listed above,
Austin Stickle from Stickle Steam agreed
to chair the Networking interest area and
Andrew Reep from Ashland agreed to chair
the Programming and New Technology interest area.
TAPPI has purchased a new communities
module for tappi.org, that will improve member online experience and add new functionality for sharing information. With a target
date of early April, the Young Professional
committee will act as a beta test for this new
soft ware so that it can eventually be rolled
out to all TAPPI members.

Sustainable Solutions for Tomrrow’s
TAPPI’s International Nanotechnology
Division will hold its 8th Annual International
Conference on Nanotechnology for Renewable
Materials, June 24-27, 2013, at the KTH Royal
Institute of Stockholm in Stockholm, Sweden.
The division will continue its support of
the search for renewable materials to replace
many existing petroleum-based products, with
a technical program that features cellulose
nanomaterials in a variety of applications:
• Unique and Thin-Film Composites
• Filler and Coating Applications for Different
• Improved Barrier Properties for Packaging
• Cellulose Nanomaterials as Films and
Carriers in Medical Applications
• Nanopaper and Iridescent Colored Cellulose

Early this summer, TAPPI Press will
release the International Nanotechnology
Division’s first publication, Production and
Applications of Cellulose Nanomaterials.
Edited by Michael T. Postek (NIST),
Robert Moon (U.S. Forest Products
Laboratory), Michael Bilodeau (University of
Maine), and Alan Rudie (U.S. Forest Products
Laboratory), this volume is a collection of
more than 100 short, two-to-four-page technical summaries providing a state-of-the-art
