Katrinefors Kraft värme AB, a joint venture between Metsä Tissue and VänerEnergi AB, will build a new biomass CHP plant at the Metsä Tissue mill in Mariestad, Sweden. Kruger Products has started up a new TAD tissue machine at its Memphis, TN, mill. Mayr-Melnhof Karton is acquiring all shares in Södra Cell Folla AS and consequently Södra’s pulp mill in Follafoss, Norway. Mondi will close a newsprint machine at the company’s Merebank mill in South Africa. Nine Dragons Paper will have six production lines begin production in succession over the next three years. Peak Rock Capital has acquired Atlas Paper Mills LLC, Miami, Fla. Omnova introduced Lytron HG80 hollow plastic pigment for coated paper, paper board and specialty applications. Toscotec has established its Chinese subsidiary, Toscotec Paper Machine (Shanghai) Co. Ltd. Voith: • Launched the new FlowJec dosing system, now in use at Smurfit Kappa Zülpich Papier. • Announced PrintForm IQ, a forming fabric that combines stability and fi neness with very high dewatering capacity. • Is working with nonwovens expert Trützschler to offer a complete production line for the manufacturing of wet laid and hydroentangled nonwovens. • Launched HydroSeal, a patented sealing strip system with integrated lubricating water feed. • Introduced the Evaporite product line of high quality dryer fabrics. • Introduced MasterJet Pro T Headbox for tissue. • Formed a joint venture with IHI to provide thermal fluidized bed power plants. • Successfully rebuilt and modernized the TM 1 of WEPA at the location in Mainz, Germany. PEOPLE Michael Cummings has been named new CEO of Gorham Paper and Tissue. Paul Herbert will complete his contact as CEO of the Ilim group and will be replaced by Franz Joseph Marx, currently president of International Paper, Russia. Lars Idermark has joined Södra as CEO. Robert Kaye has been elected chairman of PaperlinX, Australia. Alain Lemaire, executive chairman of the board at Cascades, Kingsey Falls, QC, Canada, was named “Greenest CEO in Canada” by Corporate Knights. J. Joseph Moynihan has been appointed EVP, Packaging Group, at PaperWorks Industries. Joseph F. Raccuia has stepped down as president and CEO of Finch Paper, succeeded by Debabrata Mukherjee, Ph.D. Ulrich Spiesshofer will succeed Joe Hogan as CEO of ABB, effective September 15.
