ARE CANADIANS ADDICTED TO THEIR SMARTPHONES?

Recent research conducted by Google suggests that this may be the case. According to its study more than
half of Canadian adults own a smartphone and would rather give many other things up before parting with
their prized mobile device.

two-thirds of Canadian smartphone
users would rather give up television than be without their smartphone.

The percentage of Canadian adults who
use a smartphone. This number is up
from 33% in early 2012.

The number of smartphone users who said that
they log on to social media sites via their smartphone every day. 78% of respondents indicate that
they have connected to social media at least once
through their mobile device.

Roughly 80% of smartphone users
said that they never leave home
without their mobile device. A further two-thirds
said that they had used their device every day over
the course of the past week.

The percentage of Canadian smartphone users that have searched for a
business online through their phone. About 27% of
respondents said that they had changed their mind
about a purchase after completing a mobile search.

The vast majority of smartphone users watch
downloaded video on their phone. One in five
said that they watch videos daily on their device.
The average number of apps that Canadian
smartphone users have installed on their
device. Of these, an average of 12 have been used—
8 of which had been paid for.
