RCC's MySTORE division tackles issues and challenges specific to independent retailing.

MySTORE AS UNIQUE
AS MY STORE
Independent retailer division to implement new services for
small and mid-size retailers

INDEPENDENT retailers have a huge pull on
the Canadian economy. With so much of the
economy tied to retail—it is the largest industry in Canada—and so much of retail tied to
independent retailing—95 per cent of retailers employ fewer than 50 people—the ups and
downs of independents can make local markets bounce like a yo-yo.
With the creation of MySTORE, a division of
Retail Council of Canada dedicated to serving
the needs of independent retailers, independents now have a stronger voice.

of MySTORE. He says its creation is an import-

ant development for Canadian retail.
“What it does is create a focus on the issues
and the needs of independents. Large members, they can solve some of the big issues for
themselves—they have the people and the resources. Some issues are unique to independents, and independents need to come together
to solve them.”
MySTORE is the culmination of years of work
and change at RCC, including RCC’s mergers
with Shelfspace, an association that served independent retailers in Western Canada, and
the Canadian Booksellers Association, an allindependent association. The new, independents only division has a dedicated membership service team, a dedicated budget line and
