TARGET TO OPEN FIRST STORES IN QUEBEC
AND NOVA SCOTIA

Target Canada announced at the end of the summer that it would soon open 23 more stores across
the country, including the company's ﬁrst stores in
Quebec and Nova Scotia.
Fourteen of the new stores opened on September
17, while the other 9 opened on October 18. Sixteen
of the new locations are in Quebec, three in Nova
Scotia and four in the Ottawa area.
"We look forward to opening our ﬁrst stores in
Quebec and Nova Scotia as we carry out an unprecedented retail expansion covering all 10 provinces across Canada this year," said Tony Fisher,
president of Target Canada.
"Quebec, Nova Scotia and Ontario offer a variety
of culturally diverse markets and we look forward
to serving our new guests and engaging with these
great communities," Fisher said.
Target currently has 68 stores open across Canada with plans to open a total of 124 locations by
the end of 2013 with a focus on adjusting inventory
and in-store staffing to match the pace of sales in
each of its locations.

CANADIAN TIRE TEAMS UP WITH MLSE WITH
10-YEAR RETAIL DEAL

The recent announcement that the Canadian Tire
family of companies have entered into a 10-year
partnership with Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) has created some excitement amongst
fans of each of the iconic Canadian entities. It's a
match that seems to have been made in Canadian
sports heaven, and presents both Canadian Tire and
MLSE with the opportunity to tap into existing and
potential markets, both locally and nationally.
The new arrangement will include boutiques
within selected Canadian Tire stores selling apparel from MLSE teams. It also includes exclusive
video content produced by MLSE and published on
Sport Chek websites and in interactive displays at
Sport Chek stores.
In addition, Sport Chek will open its ﬂagship
location at Maple Leaf Square in Summer 2014, taking over and expanding the 8,500 square-foot Real
Sports apparel store.
Michael Medline, president of Canadian Tire Sports,
said the company plans a large expansion of Sport
Chek's retail space in the GTA and across Canada.
