"If loss prevention is to be truly effective, it must be
incorporated into an organization's strategic and investment planning process," she says. "It's now being
taken seriously because LP professionals are making
a value proposition that corporate and organization
leaders can embrace and endorse and then invest the
resources to support it."
And loss prevention, says Estwick, is taking its
rightful place in the executive suite thanks to the support and many educational programs from industry
associations like RCC.
"Programs, conferences and committees organized
through associations like RCC, the American Society
of Industrial Security and the International Association of Financial Crime Investigators have raised the
level of awareness, education and stewardship for loss
prevention. There are networks now where retailers
of all sizes can go for information, guidance and support. Loss prevention is no longer only for the large.
The network is there where independents and small
firms can go and customize programs and procedures
for their individual organizations."

Passionate advocate
Estwick says the RCC award is one of the crowning
achievements of her long and distinguished career.
She sits on the Board of Humber College's protection
and security investigation program in Toronto and
sees one of her most important roles in the industry
now as a mentor to students and young people entering the industry.
"To be recognized by peers from your industry is
probably one of the greatest honours anyone can receive," says Estwick. "But perhaps an equally great
honour is being able to act as a mentor to the next
generation of loss prevention professionals. Over the
years my passion for what I do has increased as the
industry has evolved and moved forward. And now to
have the opportunity to steward these young professionals, to help them build on successes of the past
and seize the challenges of the future, is perhaps the
greatest honour anyone can have in their career."
