Defining Our Future
One Step at a Time
When the world around you gets overwhelming (and let's be clear, for most of us when
isn't life a little overwhelming?), I am reminded of the following quote: "Always remember
that the future comes one day at a time." At TNSAE, we understand that growth and
our successes are never a result of a single change or strategy, but rather the result of
numerous small steps and adjustments along the way.
The association profession today differs from each generation before. That is as it should
be. But who has the opportunity to drive this change and ensure we are on the correct
course? You do. As TNSAE members, you are driving this change on Capitol Hill, in
community settings, through publications, at professional meetings, and through your
involvement and participation with the TNSAE.
A big thank you to facilitator Bob Harris, CAE, TNSAE Executive Director Jenny Matthews,
and the TNSAE Board of Directors, who met this spring to formulate a three-year
strategic plan and lay the groundwork for the future of TNSAE. The group represented
the industry well and brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the discussions.
This plan is a culmination of ideas brought forth to ensure the association profession in
Tennessee is positioned appropriately to foster strength to members.
Each and every activity, program, educational seminar and service that TNSAE participates
in will be measured against our new plan with our primary focus on the ever changing
needs of our members. It is the foundation of who we are and what we are to be doing.
It is the map that will direct us in successfully carrying out our mission.
In order for us to know your needs and for this plan to be fully effective, we need your
feedback! You can expect to see an increase in surveys and notifications as we move
forward in this initiative. One step at a time, we will work with you to define the best
ways that TNSAE can benefit you and your organizations.
As we hit the mid-year mark, I am excited to update you on some of the things TNSAE is
doing currently to benefit our members and help build a bright future. Already this year,
we have had increased participation and positive reviews from Industry Education Day,
and plans are under way for this year's Association Professional University (APU), Annual
Awards Luncheon and the Annual Trade Show. I hope you will make plans to attend all
of these events-I know you will not be disappointed.
The education committee works hard to deliver quality educational and networking
experiences for regular and associate members. Strong attendance at events provides
a large network of colleagues readily sharing the knowledge they've gained from their
experiences in association management. Also, a larger attendance provides additional value
to associate members who want to connect with the leaders in associations in Tennessee.
As we looked back to move forward, we acknowledge that none of these accomplishments
would have been possible without the commitment of our previous leadership and the ongoing
involvement and support of our members. We have done much together and we still have
much to do. We are looking ahead and working toward a strong future for TNSAE. You
drive our initiatives to lead the association community to new heights... one step at a time.
