Enhancing the SGMP Experience
* A Blue Ribbon Task Force was put in place in 2015 to
address SgMP's biggest priority: stabilizing membership
in such a challenging industry environment. We have
enlisted our Society's best and brightest to enhance the
SgMP membership experience by bolstering our marketing
messages, improving our communication schedules and
creating consistent national/chapter guidelines (a full report
will be presented this spring).
* Our membership elected six trustees to serve the Gilmer
institute of learning Trustees starting on July 1, 2016.
congratulations to Bobbi Barkley, cgMP, cMP; Patty
Barron, cgMP; Mark richardson, cgMP; andy Silver,
cgMP; carolyn B. Wence, cgMP, cMP; and
cheryl Wierenga, cgMP, cMP.
* The winners of our 2015 Planner Membership Contest
were Tennessee chapter, followed by arizona and
rocket city alabama. Tennessee and florida capital
were tops in fundraising in the 2015 Mid-year chapter
auction - congrats to all!
* SGMP's 2016 CGMP Congress was a big success as 70
of our certified members received exceptional education
(and 10 contact hours). hospitality and meetings industry
perspectives regarding legislation and travel were also provided.
* The National Board of Directors held a joint meeting with
the gilmer institute of learning in San Diego at the Town
and country hotel & conference center, host of our 2016
national education conference. The national leadership team
is exploring options for our policies requiring a 50/50 ratio
between planners and suppliers.
* Headquarters welcomed Kelly Harris as membership
communications manager. Kelly brings more than a
dozen years of progressive experience in the association
management community as a senior membership
* SGMP signed an agreement for outsourced accounting
services with Talley Management group. TMg is well known
and well respected in the association management industry
and has offices outside Philadelphia and in alexandria, virginia.
* Are you getting important Society updates right away from
SgMP? friend "SgMPnation" on facebook, connect with
"Society of government Meetings Professionals (SgMP)" on
LinkedIn, follow "@SGMPHQ" on Twitter, and subscribe to
"SGMPHQ" on YouTube.
* The National Board of Directors made a significant change of
our approach to national education by announcing at the end
of last year that SgMP will not be holding a national education
conference in 2018. We will still be holding an nec in 2016 and
2017, but are now completely reinventing how future SgMP
meetings held regionally - rather than via a single national
conference - can enable more members under travel and
training restrictions to participate in SgMP training.
* It was with a heavy heart that SGMP announced the closing of
the Buckeye chapter just shy of its 25th anniversary. We again
acknowledge the support and loyalty of all of our members and
friends in ohio and the columbus area since 1991.
