Government Connections - Spring/Summer 2018 - 7
Society of Government Meeting
3337 Duke St.
Alexandria, VA 22314
As we make plans to travel to Norfolk
for the much-anticipated NEC 2018, we
have many positive developments and
initiatives in the planning phases to report.
Having recently wrapped up a meeting
with your steadfast volunteer board of
directors, I can tell you everyone is fired
up about the progress that has been made
on the strategic plan, which translates
to a stronger Society of Government
Meeting Professionals (SGMP).
Though our Superheroes Circle campaign
will have wrapped up by the time you read
this, we can certainly tell that members
have taken to heart the challenge of sharing
SGMP with colleagues and friends. More
than 120 referrals have been made by
government meeting professionals across
the country so far. If you see a member with
a Superheroes Circle pin, be sure to give
them a high-five.
GROWING OUR INFLUENCE
We have been participating with other
industry partners in the Events Industry
Council. This membership gives our
members a voice within the broader
meetings sector. The spring release of
the Economic Impact Study reported
the importance of meetings not only for
business, but also for the economy at large.
SGMP will be participating in their initiative
later in the year to sketch out the meetings
career landscape, too.
BUILDING UP RESOURCES
You will soon see a redesign of SGMP.org
if it has not already been launched to make
navigating easier. And, I'm pleased to report
that a job board where you will be able to
recruit for new employees and search for
jobs is coming soon. Your board is at work
on improving training for chapter leaders
with an innovative series of videos. And, the
Gilmer Institute of Learning (GIL) trustees
have plans to bring more education online
with webinars so members have more
options for their professional development
and contact hours.
As always, thank you for being part of our
society, and I hope to see you in Norfolk.
