My first real job was a dishwasher at a fine Italian
Restaurant in Columbus, Ohio. I took this job for
some extra money while I was in high school and
worked there until I graduated. I learned a lot from

Nathaniel Lofton is the first vice president for the
Crossroads of America Chapter.
I started with the state of Indiana in 2008 and
assisted with planning outreach activities with the
current outreach manager. Shortly after she left
in 2010, the position was not replaced and I was
directed to take over her duties and some others as
well. These duties focused on planning meetings,
facilitating workshops and planning resource fairs
for the small businesses we serve.
HOW DID YOU FIRST HEAR
I was invited to a meeting by a current SGMP
member, Lakisha Williams. After the presentation,
I joined SGMP immediately because I wanted to
have access to the information that they were
providing. I am not disappointed in my decision.
IF YOU COULD TRY OUT ANY JOB
FOR A DAY, WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE
I think it would be interesting to be the
commissioner of one of the bigger state agencies.
