The rocket city alabama chapter, based out of huntsville, had a busy fall!
The chapter had its annual awards Banquet and Silent auction on october 28, 2014
at the Jackson center in huntsville. This event served as an opportunity to applaud
chapter suppliers and planners for their achievements and contributions to promote the
chapter's monthly and community events.
Steve Metz of Metropolitan Disc Jockey Services served as emcee and kicked off the
evening with a silent auction that raised more than $1,400 for the chapter.
after an impressive dinner served by the Jackson center chefs, chapter President
Mike anderson, cgMP, raytheon, presented the awards. With the exception of the
President's award, chapter membership votes determined the award recipients. The
Silver Spoon award, for the best cuisine served at a chapter meeting, went to the
Westin huntsville; elle congdon accepted. The Program of the year award went to
Barbie Baugh, elizabeth Blackmon and eddie Kidd, aMcoM Protocol at redstone
arsenal, for their "Dining etiquette" program. Trey hodge, rocket city logistics, took
home the Supplier of the year award for his relentless fundraising efforts during the
year. Teresa rexing, intuitive research and Technology, received the Planner of the year
award and the President's award for her tireless efforts as the Program chair, which also
includes her support of the government Meeting Specialist Program.
in november 2014, chapter members had the opportunity to wear their new chapter
T-shirts and participate in their first veterans Day parade. it was a beautiful day and
a great time was had by all! The chapter also had the opportunity to recognize a few
of their members who have served in the military: Mike anderson, Teresa rexing and
embassy Suites huntsville hosted the December 2014 holiday celebration and Bake
Sale. each year, the chapter celebrates the holidays with a new twist on an old favorite -
a silent auction bake sale. Members donated baked goods or holiday décor, and
participants bid on their favorites. More than $400 was raised for the chapter. This year,
haley's flooring & interiors donated a liberty Safe for a chapter raffle, which brought
in another $1,262 for the chapter. The evening offered great networking, great food and
great fun, and it was a spirited way to kick off the holiday season.

San Antonio Alamo Chapter
The San antonio alamo chapter recently participated in the Southwest Showcase, a joint project
of the international association of expositions & events, central Texas chapter (iaee-cTc), and
Meeting Professional international Texas hill country chapter (MPiThcc). The event is designed
for ceos, meeting planners, education directors, exhibition managers and other support staff
from associations, government entities and corporations. This year, the showcase was held on
January 29, 2015, in austin at the austin convention center.
The Southwest Showcase is a one-day event featuring a morning full of educational sessions,
and a luncheon with a featured speaker. The opening speaker was Mike Dominguez, Senior vP
for MgM resorts international, who spoke on the "The State of the Meetings industry." a whole
series of educational sessions followed, culminating in a luncheon with feature speaker,
roy Spence, co-founder, chairman and former ceo of the austin-based advertising agency
gSD&M, who spoke on "Purposed-inspired growth and leadership."
The afternoon was devoted to a trade show with more than 80 exhibitors. The San antonio
chapter of SgMP, under the leadership of linda Jackson, cgMP, was fortunate enough to exhibit
at the trade show. in preparation for the trade show, the chapter created a new banner and
developed a one-page fact sheet about the chapter, including information on the benefits of being
a chapter member. hundreds of various planners and suppliers visited the booth to find out more
about what we, as a chapter, can offer members.
