Streamline - Winter 2015 - (Page 11)

FromTheExecutiveDirector BY MYRICA W. KEISER, VRWA ExECUTIVE DIRECTOR Save the Date! April 18-20, 2016 - Place to be Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center 2016 maRkS oUR 28th annual conference, and the VRWA staff and conference committee are well on the way of making plans. Once we nail down the presenters, we will start looking at adding some fun time in order to make it more interesting and more enjoyable for you. As usual, Monday will start us off with golf and clay shoot outings, along with two all day training classes. This year, Kenny Reynolds' class will be titled "What's the Cost," which will refer to water loss, water audits, loss control programs and leak detection. This class will also look at the I&I (Inflow & Infiltration) and problems it is causing your wastewater system. Donna Lawson is bringing back "Operation Math" for those who need extra help before sitting for their exam. The day will end with a sneak preview in the exhibit hall with light refreshments. Tuesday will be packed with the exhibit hall, training classes, opening session, a business meeting, a water taste contest, and entertainment. Wednesday will follow with the end of the exhibit hall, training classes, the closing and prizes. All in all, attendees can pick up 14 CPEs all under one roof. Can't ask for anything better than that! Last year, we were able to bring back casino night thanks to Southern Corrosion. It was a fun night as attendees had a good time playing the games, visiting friends and of course winning prizes. We are happy to announce that our "Platinum" Sponsor Southern Corrosion has once again agreed to be our casino sponsor. So, the dice will be rolling, the laughter will be loud, and "The Mayberry Deputy" will be on hand to police the event. Every year, we present special recognition to those in the water and wastewater industry. We recognize water/wastewater operators, maintenance and lab technicians, office workers, rookie water/wastewater operators, water and wastewater systems, consumer confidence reports, and websites. A special recognition in the way of a pat on the back or a plaque goes a long way with employees when they realize that they are appreciated by their employers. In the past, our nominations have been very few, so we ask that you take pride and take a few minutes to send in your nominations. We know that all systems have something and/or someone they are proud of for their accomplishments. Let's make this coming year's award program the best ever. Two and a half days of training and fun and a time to relax, meet new friends and catch up with old friends. If you have any suggestions on how to make it better or something you would like to see added, please do not hesitate to share with us. So now mark those calendars for April 18-20th - watch your mail and emails for notification of when you can start signing up. Hope to see you there. 11
