Streamline - Spring 2014 - (Page 24)

Faces IN THE WINTER edition of StreamLine, I featured an article, "A Day (or Night) in the Life of a Water BY TRACY PUCKETT, WATER CIRCUIT RIDER II I will again remind you, "The next time you turn the faucet on and you are supplied with the water you need to meet your demands, don't forget how all of this was made possible." Maintenance Employee." In the article, I did my best to help all readers understand what an important role the maintenance employee plays in keeping one of life most precious commodities coming into our homes or places of business. It seems that no matter how hard I try to stress their importance, my words continue to fall way short of the recognition they are due. Over the winter months, I have been privileged to work with several utilities. Due to severe cold temperatures, many utilities have experienced line breaks one right after the other. These lines have ranged from a ¾-inch service line to a 10-inch main. Frozen water lines have also been an issue this winter, and while the frozen lines are beyond the utilities service on the consumer's side of the meter, still utilities has made every effort to assist customers as much as possible to help them resolve their problems. As I have worked closely with some of these utilities, the words that were penned down from the previous article once again came to life as I watched the dedication of these public servants. Some maintenance crews worked from 24 to 30 hours without any rest, very little to eat and frigid weather with below zero temperatures and wind chills as low 30 below zero, conditions that found many people enjoying the comfort and warmth on the inside of their homes or businesses. Yet as the demand for maintenance once again sounded the alarm, these folks were ready to answer the call. As I said before, too often the efforts of these important individuals go unnoticed. That's why in this article, I have put together a few photos of some of the utilities and their employees that VRWA has had the privilege to assist with leak detection and repairs. This will allow viewers all across the state to see some of the many faces that provide us with service that is taken for granted. Please continue to look forward to future productions of StreamLine as VRWA wants to continue posting more photos of other utilities and their employees. I will again remind you, "The next time you turn the faucet on and you are supplied with the water you need to meet 24 S T R E A M L I N E * S p r i n g 2 0 1 4 your demands, don't forget how all of this was made possible." Thanks again to all the maintenance employees for your tireless efforts and a job well done. VRWA Circuit Rider Kenny Reynolds detects for leaks in the Town of Pound
