2013 Conference was a rousing success! Training sessions informed and updated attendees on new water and wastewater skills, as well as networked with more than 100 exhibitors and their latest technologies. Participants also enjoyed their time off to compete in the golf and clay shoot contests, as well as tried their luck at Casino Night. VRwA’S 25Th AnnUAL There were many winners announced this year during the Awards Ceremony. Billie McGinnis, of the Town of Tazewell, won Office Worker of the Year for her hard-working diligence. Montgomery Co. PSA’s Donald P. Todora received the Water System Operator of the Year award for more than 25 years of hard work. There was a tie for Water System of the Year: the Town of Culpeper and the Town of Bluefield Water received the prestigious title. Lastly, the Town of Shenandoah took home the Water Taste Contest award, and they will represent 2013 VRWA Award Winners plan events such as Kid’s Fishing Day, Annual Banquets and more. Billie continuously seeks ways to better improve herself and increase her department’s performance. By doing such not only does she improve herself, she improves the Town. Office Worker of the Year Billie McGinnis, Town of Tazewell Billie has been an employee of the Town of Tazewell since May 2001. She has obtained the position of the Town’s Water Clerk throughout her employment. Through her years of service she has shown great interest in the detail of her work. Due to detail this past year she discovered an error in meter recordings. Because of her diligence to detail this correction increased collection to the water department by an estimated $93,000 per year. Billie has attended VRWA’s Annual Conference for many years and takes classes to keep her current with current issues. She is very involved in community activity and the Local chapter of the Virginia Wild Turkey Federation where she helps 26 S T R E A M L I N E • S u m m e r 2 0 1 3 Water System Operator of the Year Donald P Todora, Montgomery Co. PSA Don has 25 plus years of service to Montgomery Co. PSA. His duties include supervision of all water system operations for 10 permitted water systems. He also completes monthly reports for VDH. He had developed and prepared the Annual Consumer Confidence Reports and Backflow & Cross Connection Program. He trains all new Virginia at the Nationals in Washington D.C., on Feb. 10-12, 2014. Don’t forget to mark your calendars and join us for the 2013 EXPO, taking place at Augusta Expoland in Fisherville, on Aug. 21-22, 2013. The VRWA staff and board of directors would like to thank all the attendees, speakers and exhibitors who attended our 25th Annual Conference this year. Water System of the Year (A tie) Town of Culpeper The Town of Culpeper currently serves 6462 customers with an estimated population of 16379 based on the 2010 census. The water plant is a 4.0 million gallons a day water treatment plant using dual media filters to treat an average of 800 million gallons a year. There are 7 full time operators and 4 maintenance
