Streamline - Summer 2015 - (Page 11)

FromTheExecutiveDirector BY MYRICA W. KEISER, VRWA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR It's Over publication, our 2015 conference is over. It's sort of sad in some ways. Like a wedding, it takes all year to prepare for and then it's over in a flash. AS OF THIS This year's VRWA Annual Conference was once again a huge success with recordbreaking attendance. This year's VRWA Annual Conference was once again a huge success with record-breaking attendance. It was extremely exciting to see the exhibit hall full of vendors and attendees walking around and checking it all out. Even our training classes were well attended, which lets us know we did a good job in our topic selections. On Tuesday morning we held our opening session where we were honored to have guests Evan McWaters (representative for Senator Tim Kaine), Angie Hall (representative for Congressman Morgan Griffith), Pete Larkin (representative for Congressman Bob Goodlatte) and Jennifer Boyd (representative for Senator John Edwards) welcome us back to Roanoke and show their support for rural water. David Baird (NRWA Director and Director for Delaware Rural Water) spoke and gave updates of what is happening with National Rural Water and the importance of working with legislators, letting them know the significance of the rural water programs. The opening was followed with the annual business meeting to conduct association business and elect board members whose terms had expired. Pam Baughman (Louisa County Water Authority) retained her seat, as did Tom Delbridge (City of Emporia). Congratulations to them both. Filling the unexpired seat of Jim Spencer's (atlarge) will be Mike Lynn (Albemarle County Service Authority). We congratulate Mike and look forward to working with him. Your executive board remains the same with Pam Baughman as President, Tom Delbridge as Vice President and Mike Ritchie as Secretary/Treasurer. The day ended with fun entertainment as the casino games were brought back by our sponsor Southern Corrosion. On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff and members, we thank Southern Corrosion for their continued and generous support. The night gave everyone a time to relax, visit with friends, play a few games and win some wonderful prizes that were sponsored by many of our vendors. Wednesday was a little over a half day ending with a short closing session where Trisha Henshaw (DPOR) and John Aulbach (ODW) gave the audience some updated information regarding new rules for DPOR and updated regulations for the ODW. Closing ended with presenting our awards to our members, and announcing the winner of the 2015 Water Taste Contest. This year's winner was the Town of Lovettsville. Prizes were given out and the most exciting was the winner of the "He-Man" Grill. James Thomas (Town of Front Royal) was our winner, and I am so sorry I did not have a camera ready when we caught him fighting to get the grill in the back seat of his car. But now it's over - there is a void in the office - no stress - no conference deadlines - no getting ready - just peaceful. Now you know I am full of fluff... The office is busy putting the conference away, making notes for next year, working on new contracts for future years, and getting ready for our upcoming VRWA Expo in August. So be sure and mark your calendars now for August 18-20 and the place to be will be the Augusta ExpoLand in Fishersville. Thank you for being a supporter of rural water. Continue to send those letters of appreciation for the work our staff does for you, and continue to write your congressman letting him or her know the importance of our programs to you and your systems. 11
