VIRGINIA RURAL WATER Association announces record breaking attendance at the VRWA 28th
Annual Conference. A total of 616 in attendance was reported.
VRWA President Pam Baughman writes about
"Life's a Dance" - well, VRWA staff and board
of directors are definitely doing their "happy"
dance. Once again, everyone worked together
and pulled off another successful conference.
It's called "teamwork."
Opening session started with James Maras
(USDA RD) speaking to us as he introduced
himself to the membership and highlighted some
of his goals as he settles in his new position. John
O'Connell (NRWA Director/New York Rural
Water) updated us on what is happening at the
home front at NRWA, and the need to keep in
constant contact with your legislators, letting
them know the needs of your association.
The 28th Annual Business Meeting preceded
the opening, with reports and the election of board
members. The election results are as follows:
* Roy Markham (Castlewood Water
& Sewage Authority) - Region I
* Frank Davis (Campbell County Service
& Utilities Authority) - Region II
* Mike Ritchie (Town of New
Market) - Region III
* Mike Lynn (Albemarle County
Service Authority) - At-Large
The organizational board meeting then followed, with the election of the following officers:
* Pam Baughman (Louise County
Water Authority) - President
* Tom Delbridge (City of
Emporia) - Vice-President
* Mike Ritchie (Town of New
Market) - Sec/Treasurer
Training classes were held, exhibit hall was
booming and the halls were full of excitement.
The day ended with "Casino Night Southern
Corrosion" Style...Once again we thank Southern
Corrosion for being our casino sponsor. And, I
am sure you noticed your room key as Southern
Corrosion was our KeyCard sponsor. We also
tried something new as we offered "VRWA's First
Brewery Flight Tasting," sponsored by William
Johnson, II PE PC. The flight tasting offered four
craft beers from local breweries.
On Wednesday morning, we hit the ground
running with more training classes and more
visits to the exhibit hall. The day ended with the
closing session, where David Dawson (Advantage
Partnership) gave us a lesson on the Wright brothers, while applying the story to teamwork in the
workplace. This was followed with our awards
presentations and prize drawings. A more detailed
listing may be found in this issue.
The 28th Annual Conference is over and staff
is now starting to make plans for next year. If you
have any suggestions or something you would
like to see us add, please let us know.
Now we need for you to mark your calendars
now for our upcoming VRWA Expo - August
16-18th at the Augusta ExpoLand, Fishersville,
VA. Watch your email and our website www.
