Streamline - Fall 2017 - 9

BY MYRICA KEISER, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Time Flies...
time flies when you are having fun... as children we never understood since it
seemed like it took forever for school to end and summer to start, or for Christmas vacation to begin,
spring break to get here and to finally to be old enough to get the license to drive. Now as an adult,
we ask the question "where did the time go"? Why do we ask that? Because it seems like yesterday
it was Christmas and we had another whole 12 months before the next one arrived only to find out
that in less than five months it is here again. Or for some of us, we held our first grandchild, only to
look at them now and realize they are nine. Or that we had plenty of time to write our articles for
the magazine, yet it is that time again. Or we just completed Expo and we have many more months
before we start the next one. Guess what? It's Expo time again - how did that happen? Time does fly!
THEY SAY THAT

Guess what?
It's Expo
time again -
how did that
happen? Time
does fly!

So if time is flying by us, then it is time for us to
get busy. Mark your calendar now and start making plans for Expo 2017. Make sure you are aware
of the new date, which is October 16-18 - we
are still at the Augusta ExpoLand, Fishersville,
VA. Our hopes are by having it later in the year,
we will not be in conflict with other events and
the weather will be much cooler.
Want to see something different this year -
tell us. This year, we have plans to add live
demonstrations to the mix along, with
the training classes. Watch your mailbox and check out our website for
more detailed information for
this team building event.
Now back to "time flies" -
in August, 1987, I walked
into a building that had
been flooded in 1985 and
still had what we called
"flood mud" in the windows, walls
and floors. I was there for an interview for an office manager's position
for a non-profit organization that I had
never heard of. Little did I know at
that time what was in store for me.
Little did I know at that time that
30 years later, I would still be
with that non-profit organization and getting closer to my
retirement. Little did I know
that "time" would fly by me.
I have had the opportunity to

make a lot of friends and visit many new places. I
have been able to learn "somewhat" how politics
works and how it doesn't. With starting out as
office manager I learned that a debit is on the left
and credit on the right (I think that is correct). Or
is it that the debit is on the window side?
So as time flies, and with next year hosting our
30th Annual Conference I would like to share
some VRWA memories. Let's go back to April
1989 Natural Bridge Conference
Center. First VRWA conference,
who remembers? The hotel was
in renovation mode, with
jackhammers going, bathtubs and commodes being
dragged down the halls and
thrown out of the windows.
And to spice things up more, we
had "Joe the Juggler" for entertainment who set fire to Greg Jefferson's
(Town of Wise) hundred dollar bill.
Greg's comment: "Myrica, have we
paid Joe yet?"
Well, all I can say now is that time
really does fly when you are having fun...
Note: While you are marking your calendars, be sure and mark April 16-18, 2018
for the next VRWA Annual Conference
& Technical Exposition. We will again
be at the beautiful Hotel Roanoke &
Conference Center.
