West Four Group of
for its Past - Excited
About its Future Growth

ounded in 1947 as a small
window and door plant owned
by the Konopaki brothers,
today West Four Group of
Companies Inc. has grown to become a
well-known and well-respected Western
Over the years, there have been
significant changes, says Jay Fafard,
Executive Vice-President, with
2004 being a pivotal point in time.
Realignment followed, with Lynne
and Ken Fafard taking sole ownership.
In 2011 and again in March of 2017,
corporate changes were made, moving
from a partnership to Incorporation.
Effective April 1st, 2017, the O.A. name
of Riverbend Group of Companies
was changed to West Four Group of
Fafard says the company, while
continuously offering new products and
services, values its historical legacy and
community roots. Two of the original
members of the Group of Companies,
opened in 1968, and still in operation
today, are the contract lumberyards of
Security Building Supplies in Regina
and Saskatoon. In addition, Madero
Distribution began in 1987; currently,
this brand is in Winnipeg, Calgary, and
Saskatoon, servicing lumberyards in all
of Western Canada.
Penner Door & Hardware was
purchased in 2009. Founded in
Winnipeg, Penner is a well-known player

in supply and installation of architectural
doors, hardware and specialty products,
focusing on both contractual projects
and design build for commercial builders.
Penner opened in Saskatoon in 2011 and
Calgary in 2015. The newest member of
West Four Group is Two Six Creative,
a design services marketing company
specializing in the construction industry.
Today, West Four Group employs 160

"When you have been in this
industry for 70 years," says Fafard, "you
understand the cyclical nature of the
economy and business. Throughout
the last two years, we have definitely
had sales pockets that are soft, and like
everyone, had to make changes to our
operations. We also believe that in the
soft times, expansion is the right time."
Consequently, in June 2016 the
Saskatoon location of Security Building
Supplies moved into a new facility,
complete with a design center, interior
finishing showroom, stocking retail
storefront, heated drive-thru and
expanded warehousing and yard storage.
Security Building Supplies' Regina
location will see a similar expansion
throughout 2018/2019 as it celebrates
