C o u n t r y r e p o r t - Disbook AfricA 2012 KeNYA TELEVISION MARKETPLACE Kenya has a developed and vibrant media scene, with a large middle class providing a base for substantial advertising revenue. The media landscape consists of the state-run broadcaster Kenya Broadcasting Corporation and a dozen private television stations. KTN, Nation TV and Citizen TV are the most popular television channels. Kenya is now also going digital. The transition from analogue TV to the full digital switchover is set for this year. DTT was successfully launched and will expand broadcasting space, resulting in new TV and radio licenses, with 600 operating channels predicted in the near future. The Kenyan audiovisual landscape is already strongly influenced by a fast growth of internet and mobile phone users. MARCHÉ DE LA TÉLÉVISION La scène médiatique du Kenya est diverse et développée. Sa forte classe moyenne assurant la base de recettes publicitaires substantielles. Le paysage audiovisuel est constitué du radiodiffuseur public Kenya Broadcasting Corporation, diffusant à l’échelle nationale et une dizaine de télévisions privées. Nation TV (NTV), KTN et Citizen TV sont les chaînes de télévisions les plus appréciées et diffusent une grande quantité de contenus produits localement. Le Kenya passe à la transmission numérique. Le passage de la diffusion analogique à l’analogique doit se terminer cette année. La TNT a été lancée avec succès et devrait s’étendre à tout l’espace audiovisuel en permettant la création de nouvelles chaînes de télévision et la création de nouvelles licences de radio. 600 chaînes sont déjà prévues à court terme. Le paysage audiovisuel Kenyan est fortement influencé par une croissance rapide des utilisateurs d’internet et de téléphonie mobile.
