LE PARC D’INNOVATION « Strasbourg The Europtimist » : Le Bioparc 3 : 3 100 m2 de bureaux et laboratoires dédiés aux activités de recherche en biotechnologie. © Architecte AEA ARCHITECTES Strasbourg & its community A dive into therapeutic innovation excellence Strasbourg urban community and its partners confirm more than ever their assets for cutting edge therapeutic innovation: from developing new medical devices (imaging, surgery instruments, robotics, etc.) to conceiving tomorrow’s drugs. Its commitment to create a campus in the heart of the city dedicated to medical technologies can be assert by its collaboration with Strasbourg University Hospitals, Alsace Biovalley cluster, IRCAD and the University of Strasbourg. The majors did have it right. Sanofi-Aventis, Lilly, Octapharma, Quintiles or Transgene have set up their businesses in Strasbourg long time ago. World class research has its say in a community that counts multiple Nobel prices as well as researchers and research centers of excellence including the IGBMC, one of the main biomedical research center in Europe. This goes along with a first class university campus considered one of the main French campus out of the Paris area. A global and modular real-estate offer “Strasbourg urban community aims to ease the development of life science businesses, especially through a complete and fitted real-estate offer, that considers the company maturity as well as its domain of expertise” pointed out Ms Trautmann, the economic development VP for the urban community. It starts with the innovation park that offers a brand new facility dedicated to biotech research activities called BIOPARC 3. The park hosts also a range of scientific services such as the Alsace BioValley cluster specialised in the life science or the newly created SATT Conectus (Technology transfer agency) specialized in technology transfer and partners agreement management. More facilities and business incubators are expected to complete Strasbourg real-estate offer dedicated to medical technologies businesses. In November 2012, the Minister of Foreign Trade, Ms Nicole Bricq inaugurated the pH8 building, a springboard for innovative businesses willing to “evaluate” Strasbourg favourable economic environment and/or the French and German markets. By the end of 2013, Strasbourg former Royal stud farm will be completely transformed to become a biocluster open to 17 start-ups specialized in medical technologies. At last but not least, a Technopark will open in 2016, becoming the main facility for businesses on campus with 35 spots in the heart of the most attractive environment offering simplified logistic, mutualised technical platforms and support services such as quality assurance consulting, regulations, clinical testing,etc.. Besides these facilities developed specifically for medtech businesses, we also find significant actors such as the NHC (New general hospital), the Institute of Research against Digestive Cancer (IRCAD) or the recently founded Image guided Hybrid surgery Institute (IHU) which aims to become an international reference. These elements are part of the medical technologies Campus, one major strategic development for Strasbourg 2020 Road map.
