Key Features Auto-configuration for easy setup Integrated controller/driver for 4-axis active beam stabilization Flexible standard interfaces including USB, Ethernet and RS-232 Easily connects to standard motorized mirrors and beam-position detectors M O T I O N C O N T R O L Example beam-stabilization setup made simple with the Model 8780 GuideStar Universal Controller. The New Focus® 8780 GuideStar™ Beam-Stabilization Controller is the heart of the 4-axis active beam stabilization system. The concept is shown schematically in figure 1. Paired with the New Focus™ position-sensing detectors and the Picomotor™ actuated motorized mirror mounts, the GuideStar™ Controller provides high-precision compensation for laser pointing and position drift, and offers accurate beam stabilization (to the order of 10 µm per 10 µrad) with a host of user-friendly and convenient features. The 8780 Controller combines the micro-processor for calculating error corrections with the high-voltage drivers for actuating the Picomotor™ motorized mounts – no additional electronics or computation required. Simply plug the digital position-sensing detectors and Picomotor™ actuators into the Controller and you are ready to stabilize the position and pointing of your laser. The built-in Auto-Configuration function quickly and easily determines all of the loop parameters for your system. And USB, Ethernet, and RS232 connections provide flexibility for sending high-level commands and reading data. Designed for accuracy, reliability, and ease-of-use, the 8780 GuideStar ™ Controller is the answer for stabilizing beam position for the most demanding laser applications.
