FORUM OF ADVERTISERS Cash Management was yesterday, Cost Efficiency is key. or more than a decade Dexia Banque Internationale à Luxembourg SA (Dexia BIL) has played the role of a major partner bank for local and pan-European corporate customers in terms of cash management and treasury optimization programs. However, the recent financial crisis told us that all these systems being in place, our clients had to go for a further round of cost efficiency, also trying to avoid liquidity pressure as well as market instability. Being in day-to-day relationship with our customers, I’m in a good position to confirm that a further milestone in optimizing global cash visibility for very large corporates has been the implementation of Swift as principal electronic platform for dealing with their banks in order to handle account information, reconcile trading floor activities or ensure a centralized payment system. SwiftNet being a very reliable infrastructure spanning more than 200 countries worldwide, more than 600 corporates have joined up to the now over 9000 financial institutions, connected to Swift. F Statistics on publicly-known business cases have shown us that the ROI (Return on Investment) for a Swift implementation has been in average around 200%.Through standardization and automation the gains in productivity have been very significant, using less working capital to built one global treasury infrastructure and respecting global internal control and risk management concerns by using a webbased technology. Dealing daily with a whole list of connected banks through bilateral IT-connections, the corporates had a need to further rationalize these different platforms into a single one: SwiftNet. If a corporate customer looks at Swift as its future platform why choose Dexia as a “building-up” partner bank? First of all Dexia BIL is well experienced in Swift, as we historically use this platform as key communication system between banks. After the opening of the platform to corporate customers, Dexia BIL has presented Fin standards to its clients since the end of 2006. Whilst at the beginning there was some scepticism at corporate level, the financial crisis gave additional opportunities to present SwiftNet to our customers for cost efficiency reasons. Listening to our customers’ needs in terms of administration efficiency and STP (Straight Through Processing) concerns, in 2010 we succeeded in further upgrading the SwiftNet platform by being one of the first banks in Luxembourg to develop our internal IT systems in order to process the New XML (ISO 20022) format, as well as accepting the legacy “VIR 2000 format” through Fileact. The technical standard of customers’ needs being met at Dexia BIL level, the goal for corporate relationship management is to bring the right mixture of people together at the client’s level as well as at our bank’s level. Having a dedicated team for all Swift concerns within our bank, we propose meetings at the customer’s office to present the Dexia BIL solution to SwiftNet. 30
