Graphic and stylish Sew in your layouts! A beautiful photograph with a text full of meaning, that's all you need to make a great layout! One layout both clean and rich in details and texture, thanks to its small embellishments and to machine stitching. by Pascale Penin Choose a cardstock matching the colours of your picture: a few possibilities may happen - trust your instinct! However, if you opt for a black and white photograph, you will have a free choice. Then print your journalings. Choose only two fonts: a legible classical font (Times New Roman, Baskerville) for your texts and a stick type font which catches the eye (Copperplate Light for example) for your titles. Round the outer corners of your texts with a punch, then arrange them on your background: they are placed diagonally and meet face-to face. Leave margins 3 cm (1.2") all around. Top right, the picture will back slightly onto the white paper. Among your scraps, cut out six different 5 x 5 cm squares (2" x 2"). Create a small mosaic in matching colors and stick it on the side opposite the photo making sure to leave a small margin of 1 mm (0.04") between each square. Using the sewing machine with white thread, connect all these little squares with a quite tight zigzag stitch, like a patchwork. For a neat finish, topstitch with a simple stitch around your journalings with white thread. Text boxes and pictures are highlighted by thin strips of paper and stickers. The embellishments are arranged in the mosaic squares: three butterflies, a small sticker and two chipboards add a touch of relief to the layout. 1 4 86 HISTOIRES DE PAGES - SEPTEMBER / OCTOBER 2013 2 5 3 6
