A background page in 9 steps Flowers and colors ! Creating your own background will allow you to ideally reflect the atmosphere of a photo. Today we suggest you match spray inks and homemade flowers for a vibrant layout! by Birgit Koopsen After creating this original and colorful background page, all you will need to do is stick on the labels, the photo, the title, and the matching embellishments, and possibly add a few lines of stitching to highlight the title. Flowers in vanitas paintings What you need : * * * * * * * * * * Two patterned papers - 1 neutral and one colored Circle punches in three sizes Four colors of spray ink One color of acrylic paint Black ink and a colored one Stamps: text and circles Pens: black and white Washi tape Sewing machine with black thread Letter stickers and various embellishments 94 HISTOIRES DE PAGES - SEPTEMBER / OCTOBER 2013 Supplies: papers (Prima, Basic Grey), spray inks (Ranger), acrylic paint (Americana), black ink (StazOn), alphabets (American Crafts, Jenni Bowlin, Sassafras), tag (7Gypsies), washi tape (CartUs), sticker (My Mind's Eye), wood shapes (Freckled Fawn), flowers (Prima), brads, date stamp This happy little girl who smiles at the camera and to whom we wish a life sown with the flowers that are surrounding her, is the center of a layout with a joyful, optimistic vision of life. Hence this frame of flowers... happy to be there! It has not always been the same for flowers, which appeared in the seventeenth century, first in Dutch painting, in still-life pictures with particular value: the vanitas genre. They were meant to show the transitory nature of human life through the fragility of flowers. They then symbolized the insignificance of human life compared with an expected eternal life... Hence those sumptuous bouquets of the Dutch Baroque seventeenth century, in which we can find, when we look for them, many insects, larvae and even eggs laid on leaves often spotted with rust or mildew... They foresee that soon those flowers which are so beautiful will disappear and we too will be dust just as they will...
