SPECIAL Sabic begins producing LFT in Korea Sabic Innovative Plastics announced the opening of a major production line at its Chung-Ju facility in Korea on March 31, 2008. The new line will help Sabic provide enhanced service and support for customers in Korea and Asia, which is the fastest-growing market in the world. The line will produce LNP Verton long glass fibre-reinforced thermoplastic composites, which are widely used across the burgeoning automotive, telecommunications, and appliance industries in Asia. (AFG), an ECR glass fibre producer in Bahrain, have signed a memorandum of understanding for a joint venture to produce 200,000 tonnes of glass fibre per year in Bahrain. CPIC has been in glass fibre production in China since 1970 and was the first manufacturer to produce E-glass fibre by the direct-melt process in China, in 1986. Today, CPIC is China’s leading E-glass and ECR-glass manufacturer. AFG is part of Saleh & Abdulaziz Abahsain Co Ltd, established in 1947. AFG started the construction of an ECR glass fibre factory in Bahrain in 2007 as part of a joint venture with Glass Strand Inc, a leading ECR technology provider from the USA. The first furnace, with an annual capacity of 30,000 tonnes, will be fully operational in summer 2008.
